Chapter 10 What I Say Doesn’t Matter
- She stayed at Jiang Ranran’s place for a couple more days, where Li Xinyu prepared herself well before bringing the divorce agreement back home to the Lis and explaining it to them. Continuing to hole up was not a way out. If she was the sole party initiating the divorce, then the Lis would certainly not agree to it. However, this time it was Ling Yao who asked for it, so surely, they cannot fault her for it, right?
- Holding onto the divorce agreement gave Li Xinyu a lot more peace of mind.
- It was dinner time and the Li residence was bustling, with bursts of chatting and laughing.
- Seeing Li Xinyu arriving with a suitcase alone, Li Qitian glanced behind her, “Why are you suddenly back, where is Mr Ling?”
- Even though Ling Yao was his son-in-law, Li Qitian always greeted him as Mr Ling.
- If not for anything else, the investment Ling Yao pumped into the Lis alone, was enough to undo his confidence.
- The servant took Li Xinyu’s suitcase, removed it to the side, and politely greeted her, “My Lady.”
- “I’m not sure either,” replied Li Xinyu. I have seen him only 3 times and I don’t even have his number, it would be a wonder if I know his whereabouts.
- “No matter what, Mr Ling is still your husband, can you be more attentive?” asked Li Qitian, reprimanding her for disappointing him by not meeting his high hopes. “It’s alright when you were studying overseas, now that you’re back here, can you learn to understand your own husband and be more like a caring wife?”
- The series of questions fired at her had Lin Xinyu backed into a corner, where there was no way for her explain. Madam Li, who loved her daughter dearly, felt sorry for her and pulled her over to sit next to her, “Alright now, our daughter finally came back this once, just stop talking about all that.”
- “She is not only our daughter; she is also the Lings’ daughter-in-law. Running back just like this, what would the Lings think of her! What would they think of us?” he chided. The Lis counted on the Lings for their generous support and this extravagance they now enjoyed.
- Li Qitian’s words calmed Madam Li down. In agreement, she said, “Xinyu, things have changed now, it’s time for you to manage your marriage better.”
- Li Yazhi nudged closer next to Li Xinyu. With her eyes plastered on her, candidly she asked, “Sister, where is my brother-in-law? Now that you’re here, will he be coming?”
- They have been married for 3 years, but I never once saw her husband.
- At school, word has it that he is the most influential man in A City. A lot of people have their eyes glued on him. When can I get the chance to meet him?
- Yazhi had just turned 18 this year and recently was admitted to her university. She was still just a little girl, who had just started to learn about love and romance.
- Li Xinyu was not sure if it was commonplace for parents to dote on their youngest child more. However, what she did know was that her parents loved her little sister to bits. They were reluctant to utter a single note of sternness to her. They acceded to all her whims and demands, and indulged her like she was the most blessed little princess in the world.
- Even though her parents were never too harsh on her, in comparison to her little sister, there was always something lacking.
- Li Qitian snappily said, “Your little sister just asked you something, are you deaf?”
- Li Xinyu paused and said, “He’s not coming back here.”
- “Aw… why not?” bemoaned Li Yazhi, letdown written all over her face.
- What do you mean by “why”?
- Truth to be told, we have always been two strangers bound by a piece of marriage certificate.
- These thoughts ran only through Li Xinyu’s mind, as she did not have the courage to speak up.
- “Xinyu, you’re not a kid anymore, you need to mindful of your husband and your family, you must take care of everything,” said Madam Li, whose maiden name was Yuan Yu, heaving a sigh. Li Xinyu, who was unbearably stifled, saw this all as being both very comic and tragic.
- She was away for 3 long years and finally came back home, but on seeing her, her parents and little sister simply couldn’t stop babbling on about Ling Yao and the Lings.
- Although that husband in name did not cross paths with her much, woefully, she understood that her life had been thoroughly permeated by Ling Yao.
- Initially she wanted to find a better opportunity to tell her folks, but now she could entertain the idea of waiting no longer.
- Let’s just cut the Gordian knot.
- Li Xinyu immediately took the divorce agreement out of her purse. Setting on the table, she said, “Perhaps you are going to be disappointed, this marriage won’t continue on for much longer. This was what Ling Yao gave me.”
