Chapter 6 Don't Wanna See Them
- It's been three weeks since I moved into Daisy's home, and I must say they are the best humans I've met on this earth. They made me forget about my marriage crash and showered me with love and care.
- I felt valued and happy, more than when I was with Zayn. However, since I had no job, I always felt like a burden to them, even though Daisy would tell me not to worry about it.
- At one point, her husband promised to secure me a job in one of his companies, which would take some months, if not a year, after they had made some rearrangements.
- However, I decided to start a part-time job at one of the top restaurants in the city while waiting for the opportunity.
- Today started off hectic for me due to my pregnancy issue. I wasn't feeling well, but I decided to manage and go to work since I hadn't requested leave yesterday.
- My senior colleagues and boss might think I intentionally chose not to come to work.
- As I walked in and went to the dressing room to put on my uniform, a colleague knocked on the door.
- "Zora, Mr. Luke said you should meet him in his office when you're ready," she said.
- I was curious upon hearing that because for a boss to summon someone to his office early in the morning indicated a serious issue.
- "Hopefully, there's no bad news attached to this summon," I mumbled inwardly and hurried to the boss' office.
- A few minutes later, I was in front of Mr. Luke's office. I took a deep breath and prayed silently before knocking for entrance.
- His assistant walked out, and upon noticing me, she instantly opened the door widely and allowed me to enter, which was unusual. She would usually have to inform Mr. Luke first, and he would give her permission.
- I was curious for a moment, but my instinct told me he had probably instructed her to let me in.
- "Good morning, Mr. Luke," I greeted him, bowing in respect.
- "Good morning, Zora," he replied, stopping what he was doing and smiling at me.
- In all honesty, the smile calmed my nerves. At least it indicated that this summon wasn't about bad news.
- "Zora, I called you to commend you for your work in this organization. I'm quite impressed with your performance in the past two weeks," he said, pausing for a moment.
- He tore a check from a checkbook and handed it to me. "That's your salary. Additionally, we have decided to promote you to the VIP section, which means an increase in your salary."
- "Oh my goodness!" I exclaimed and went on my knees in gratitude. "God bless you, sir. Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I promise to continue making you proud," I responded, tears of joy welling up in my eyes.
- "It's okay. Get up," he said, coming out of his seat to hold me up, embracing me. He's a really kind boss, and I hadn't had any issues with him since I started working here.
- "You can start working immediately. Here is your uniform," he said, handing me a packaged shirt and skirt customized for VIP bartenders.
- "Thank you so much, sir," I said before leaving the office. As I was leaving, I glanced at the check in excitement. I couldn't believe the amount written on it. It was double my salary. I was thrilled because I had planned to use my first salary to buy gifts for Daisy and Blake as a token of appreciation for their kindness towards me.
- I was overjoyed because this amount of money was enough for me to buy gifts and rent an apartment for myself to prepare for my unborn baby.
- I changed into the VIP uniform in the locker room and headed to the VIP section.
- "Zora, welcome. There's a couple who just ordered from the 3rd room. Please check their request list and serve them," the receptionist informed me as I entered.
- I followed her instructions, prepared their order on a tray, and headed to serve them in the 3rd sector.
- However, my expression was indescribable when I walked into the room and saw Zayn and Paige chatting and laughing.
- My legs froze as I stood there with their order. I never imagined they would be the couple I was assigned to serve.
- "Honey, I loved the wedding you organized for us. It was the talk of the town and probably broke the internet," Paige said to Zayn.
- I was stunned to hear that they had gotten married in such a short period.
- "Anything for you, baby. What do I gain if I don't make you happy?" Zayn replied.
- His response felt like a sharp blow to my chest. I thought of leaving, but I knew I had to do my job, or I could face demotion or even dismissal for their complaint.
- Summoning courage, I approached their table to serve them.
- "Zora?!" Zayn was the first to notice me, looking surprised.
- "What!" Paige exclaimed as she turned and saw me, bursting into a sarcastic laugh and staring at me with disdain.
- "I told you she can't live without you, honey. Look at how miserable her life has become," she said. "I'm sure she regrets rejecting your offer back then."
- I swallowed hard, trying to remain composed. I didn't want to jeopardize my promotion or risk being fired.
- I delivered their order and ignored their hurtful comments.
- "This is your order. If you need anything else, I'll be nearby," I said, turning to leave when I heard a noise.
- "Pick up this spoon," Paige commanded. "Look how unprofessional you are. You deliberately placed the spoon to make it fall."
- I was surprised by her accusation as the spoons were in the middle of the tray, making it unlikely for them to fall unless intentionally knocked over.
- As a bartender, I had no choice but to comply with her demands to avoid a negative review.
- As I bent to pick up the spoon, Paige shook the table, causing water and wine to spill on me.
- I was furious and almost lashed out, but I managed to control my anger. "Paige, have you not done enough? Don't mistake my composure for weakness, or I will not hesitate to defend myself. I don't mind being..."
- Before I could finish, I felt a sharp slap on my cheek, and I instinctively retaliated with multiple slaps, causing her to cry out.
- Zayn quickly intervened, and Paige rushed out to report me to the management.
- "Finally, what I was trying to avoid has happened," I muttered, regretting my actions. I hurriedly left the room, heading straight home as I anticipated the consequences if her complaint reached Mr. Luke.
- I knew Mr. Luke valued his VIP customers, and one of the restaurant rules was to treat customers with respect even in challenging situations.
- "It's time to leave this city and start a new life where I won't have to see this couple. I need to move to a city where I'm not known at all."
- I booked a cab and arrived at Daisy's home. After settling my belongings, I left a letter for Daisy and Blake explaining my decision and where I was going.
- After re-reading the letter to ensure it conveyed my intentions, I placed it where they would easily find it.
- I gathered my luggage and left, informing the staff that I was visiting a sick relative in the hospital to avoid suspicion.
- I took a cab to the airport. "Northville City, here I come."
