Chapter 14 Disappointment
- At that moment, the crowd went silent. Natalie, who was holding Cecilia's hand, was standing nearby when Samuel splashed a glass of red wine onto Zachary's face. Her eyes darkened. She gripped Cecilia's hand, feeling an urge to head over to Zachary's rescue. Zachary was caught by surprise at first, but he regained his composure quickly. The temperature surrounding him became cold as he stared at Samuel with murderous intent evident in his eyes.
- “Why? Do you want to hit me? Mr. Collins organized this party, you poor b*stard, and this hotel belongs to my family. You will leave when we ask you to leave! What are you still waiting for? Do you dare to hit me? Tell you what! You don't have enough money to compensate me if you lay your hands on me!” Samuel sneered when he noticed the sinister aura radiating from Zachary. The man was in an expensive-looking suit, and he had a look of arrogance on his face.
- He couldn't help but feel triumphant.
- It's time for me to leave a good impression on the beautiful Natalie today. I need her to know that I'm a capable man! I can settle the things my chief of security wasn't able to do. There are so many gorgeous ladies at the party tonight. I hope they fall in love with my charismatic side.
- Then he looked at Finley smugly. So what if you are rich, Finley? Who cares whether your family's wealth is ten times more than mine? Ms. Baines likes men who are merciless like me. You can't use your unrivaled background to win her heart. You got to be a person with substance too!
- Looking at the chief of security, Samuel ordered, “Follow my lead and do what I did the next time you see this poor b*stard. You don't have to be courteous to him.”
- “Yes, Sir.” The chief of security nodded.
- Samuel's actions successfully attracted everyone's gaze. The wealthy and influential big shots were puffing cigars as they conversed, and the hall was filled with their kids and business elites. Many young, dashing men and pretty women surrounded Zachary, secretly laughing at his humiliating state.
- A cold light flickered in Zachary's eyes. He stared at the arrogant Samuel standing before him, the urge to end the man's life growing stronger and stronger. I'm a world-class, highly skilled expert. People at an international conference had to welcome me with warm smiles. Besides, I'm free to do anything I wish in any country as a mercenary because there are no legal restrictions to bound me. I've killed and kidnapped people before. I remembered destroying a powerful, rich family once when they offended me. If I wanted to, I could wreck a small country with my team.
- The curious onlookers, Finley, Samantha, Natalie, and Cecilia, were all staring at Zachary with different emotions as he locked his eyes on Samuel.
- Slowly, he furrowed his brows and wiped the red wine off his face.
- Zachary knew he wouldn't be able to stay in Chanaea any longer if he were to kill Samuel today.
- The military and police division had extended their invitation to Zachary, wanting him to join them. If he chose to join the military, he would hold the position of a major. If he decided to go to the police force, he would be a police chief. He was aware that Chanaea was a rich country. It was a place with opportunities to gain money everywhere. He could get rich and work on his revenge plan if he wanted to. He did not care if he killed another person. But Samuel was an unimportant being in his life. Not only would he gain nothing from killing him, but it would also get him into trouble. He did not want to do something that wouldn't benefit him.
- Zachary looked at Natalie and Cecilia, a relieved smile on his face. He walked to the side, awaiting Bethany's arrival so that she could explain the situation.
- “What are you still doing here?” Samuel questioned when he noticed that instead of leaving, Zachary had chosen to walk to the other side of the hall as if nothing had happened.
- Feeling furious, the man immediately picked up two glasses of red wine.
- That's so shameless of him!
- “Mommy, Felix is being bullied...” Cecilia voiced. She pitied Zachary when she noticed that he didn't retaliate and had chosen to stay mum after being humiliated by others.
- Even though Cecilia was only five years old, Natalie had brought her to many events as such. After being exposed to different people, Cecilia was mature in her thinking. Many adults would coach and teach her the adult way of managing things. She knew that Zachary wanted to climb up the social ladder and be rich and powerful. That was why he decided to establish a relationship with Bethany. He had shown up at the party today because he wanted to be acquainted with these wealthy people. However, he did not expect the rich to look down on him. They wouldn't even let him into their circle. They were mean to him, too. Cecilia couldn't bear to see Zachary like this because the man had treated her kindly previously.
- “Trash!” Finley remarked as he watched the scene before him coldly.
- Samantha, who was beside him, exchanged glances with him, and they smiled.
- “Camo!” Samuel went after Zachary with two glasses of red wine in his hands.
- Once Zachary turned his head, he was going to splash the red wine on his face again. He was a civilized man and had no interest in hitting him. He merely wanted to humiliate him as hard as he could.
- Zachary ignored Samuel, pretending as though he couldn't hear his voice as he continued forward.
- Natalie couldn't help but sympathize with Zachary when she witnessed the scene. She shook her head and chuckled to herself. So this is the rich people's circle that you wanted to join. You thought you would lead the same life as them once you established a relationship with them. I'm sure it has never crossed your mind that they would humiliate you and not give you a chance to prove yourself. I've already told you that getting wealthy is not that easy!
- “That's enough!” Natalie piped up.
- “Huh?” Samuel turned around.
- “He's a friend of mine,” Natalie announced with a calm expression.
- Samuel was noticeably surprised by her statement. He exclaimed, “Your friend?”
- The crowd stared at Natalie astonishingly when they heard her statement. Finley, however, sneered at her remark, while Samantha gave her an odd look.
- “Felix is my friend. I invited him here, so stop giving him a hard time,” Natalie replied calmly.
- Hearing Natalie's words, the crowd started murmuring. They stared at Natalie and Zachary with astonishment, wondering how the daughter of the ex-chief knew a construction worker like Zachary. But then again, they could understand why she was friends with Zachary. After all, Natalie was widely known to be a kind-hearted woman. She even adopted a little girl who had no blood ties with her even though raising a child was a difficult thing to do.
- Samuel, Finley, and Samantha had already noticed that there was something special between Natalie and Zachary. Samuel pretended to be shocked as he said, “Ms. Baines, is this Camo, your friend? You should have told us earlier. If you had, I wouldn't have tried to chase him away. I thought he was a miserable laborer who had barged into the party for free dinner.”
- Natalie's expression darkened. “He's not. I invited him.”
- She glanced at Zachary's back, noticing that he looked lonely and pitiful. Did he really think he would be above everyone else at tonight's party just because he had sucked up to Bethany? Unfortunately for him, though, it's already six in the evening now, and Bethany has yet to show up. She comes from an influential family, and Tobias has many friends in the military. I guess Bethany is uninterested in this party. That's why she didn't show up. Maybe she's currently accompanying Tobias at home, chit-chatting with some important figure from the military.
- Natalie made a decision. Felix, I've never liked you in the first place. I merely married you because of my father. Since you're trying to suck up to Bethany to become rich and famous, I will end my relationship with you from this moment onward. This is the last time I'm helping you. You'd better look out for yourself in the future!
- Disappointed by Zachary, Natalie played with the keys in her bag. She decided to move out in search of another new place to stay with Cecilia and throw the keys away once the party ended.
- She did not want to see Zachary ever again.
- Meanwhile, a Bentley pulled up at the hotel entrance, and a slim, gorgeous woman alighted from the car.
