Chapter 7 The Demon King Smiled

  • Darcy's expression instantly softened.
  • She wiped away her tears and sat on the worn single bed with Nikita.
  • "Nikita, tell me. What kind of person is he? What does he do?"
  • Nikita looked into Darcy's gentle eyes, feeling a mix of bitterness and a swelling sensation in her heart.
  • She handed over the marriage certificate. Suddenly, the tall figure of Theo, who had shielded her from the wind, appeared in her mind.
  • "He's not bad. He has a car and a house, so life won't be difficult."
  • Darcy's eyes brightened.
  • "Nikita, is the house his? Where is it?"
  • Darcy worked as a second-hand real estate agent, and Nikita considered it a habit of hers, so she didn't hide any details.
  • "It's at Golden Residence, Kingsbury."
  • "Golden Residence? The average price is over fifteen hundred thousand dollars. He's really wealthy. Nikita, I believe that after you marry him, you will live like a princess in a castle. Just don't forget to take care of your mother, who raised you."
  • Nikita regretted sharing information about the man. It seemed that she had caused trouble for herself and her unfamiliar husband.
  • Her mother and stepfather, aware of the man's affluent family background, might expect continuous financial support from her in the future.
  • Darcy's mood improved once she learned that the man came from a wealthy family. She looked at the marriage certificate several times before returning it to Nikita.
  • "When the check comes this afternoon, you can invite him for dinner. We are all one family now, and getting to know each other is important. After your brother's accident compensation is settled, we should also consider his college education. The university he originally wanted to attend is in Kingsbury. I used to worry that it was far from home, but now he can stay with you, and the person you are marrying also has a car. It will be very convenient for him to go to school..."
  • "Mom, I can't let Simon move in with me!" Nikita interrupted Darcy's imagination, her tone unusually firm. "Besides, he's away on a business trip and won't be able to make it."
  • She knew that Darcy didn't genuinely care about her life, and it turned out that Darcy was only considering Simon's future.
  • She would repay the five hundred thousand dollars she borrowed from Theo by herself. It was the price of breaking free from this oppressive family, and she was determined to bear it alone.
  • Likewise, she was resolute about preventing the Fosters from ever disrupting her future life, not even her mother.
  • Otherwise, her marriage to Theo would be meaningless. She got married just to establish a short-lived family and escape from her past quickly.
  • Darcy's face darkened, but she held back from erupting in anger.
  • "Well, you're all grown up and have your own family. I should've realized sooner that you loathe me, your useless mother. You resent me for wanting to stay connected even after you married."
  • She wiped her eyes with her hand, sighed, and left.
  • Nikita felt a heavy weight on her chest.
  • She clenched her fists tightly. Her mother had a habit of playing the victim, feigning sorrow and innocence. It was just a manipulative tactic!
  • She couldn't back down anymore.
  • She grabbed her suitcase, ready to escape this suffocating home, but Carlos blocked her path in the living room.
  • "It's already past noon. Call him now and have him transfer the money. Until this matter is resolved, I won't allow you to move out."
  • Nikita's face tensed, haunted by memories of years of scolding and beatings, causing her body to tremble uncontrollably with fear.
  • She subconsciously glanced at Darcy, who peeked out of the bedroom before retreating. She no longer had any hope in her heart.
  • At the same time, she mocked herself. What was she expecting? Was she expecting her mother to stand up for her?
  • Though embarrassed, she reached for her phone to dial Dorothy's number.
  • Before she could dial the number, she received a text message from the bank on her phone.
  • In her account, five hundred thousand dollars had been deposited, not a penny more or less.
  • The moment Darcy heard that five hundred thousand dollars had been transferred, she immediately walked out of the room with a smile.
  • "Nikita, congratulations on finding a good husband! Carlos, what's wrong with you? Nikita is already married. You shouldn't be treating her like a child anymore!"
