Chapter 2 Encountering Ms Summers
- Additionally, is it permissible for anyone to jump into Mr. Marcus' car?
- Before Marcus could show his irritation, Julian frowned and seized the girl by the back of her shirt, preparing to toss her out.
- She was the one who suddenly dashed out and nearly triggered a car crash.
- "No, please! Sir, someone is chasing me from behind. Would you mind taking me to the outskirts of the city?"
- While she spoke, she pulled out a bundle of cash from her small backpack and handed it to Julian. "It'll cost a little over 15 dollars to take a taxi through the city and onto the bypass. I'll give you 150 dollars. How does that sound?"
- Julian was taken aback.
- At first, it was her unusual route that surprised him, but then he noticed her face, which started to seem more familiar the longer he stared.
- Just as an answer was about to form in his mind, Julian gaped and looked at Marcus. "Mr. Marcus, she ... she is the Summers ... "
- Before he could complete his thought, the girl had already kicked him out of the car with a few quick moves. She swiftly pulled the back seat door shut with her delicate hand.
- Turning back, she looked eagerly at the man next to her and said, "You're his boss, right? I know you have plenty of money, but there's a saying that saving a life is an immeasurable virtue. I'll give you 300 dollars. Just ask the driver to hurry. When we reach the outskirts, I'll get out, and I promise not to bother you, whether I live or die!"
- Her large, black grape-like eyes, cherry-red lips, and youthful complexion as pale as snow were full of vitality.
- Marcus studied her intently, noticing Julian, who had been kicked out, opening the car door again silently, giving her a significant look.
- Julian had intended to say something but wisely kept quiet and returned to the passenger seat without protest.
- Andrew, understanding the situation, steered the car back onto the main road.
- Marcus somehow pulled out a towel from somewhere and handed it to her.
- She expressed her gratitude, took the towel, and began to wipe herself without hesitation. Marcus disregarded her actions, skillfully picked up a pen, wrote a word, and passed it to the front: "Slow."
- The car's speed suddenly decreased, and the car fell into silence.
- No one noticed, but it seemed Marcus' lips curved into a slight smile again.
- "Oh my goodness!" Andrew exclaimed in surprise, gazing at the line of cars passing by. "Are those cars part of a convoy?"
- Julian concentrated and replied, "Those are the Summers' cars! I can recognize some of the license plates!"
- The girl in the back seat recoiled, sensing two intense stares directed at her. She didn't realize it was Marcus examining her. She was just frightened and hurriedly explained, "You don't need to look at me like that. I ran away from home to avoid getting married. My family is forcing me into marriage, but I refuse to go through with it."
- Seeing the pitiful girl in front of him, Marcus felt a bit doubtful about her story.
- He opened the file in his hand again, looked back at her, and read: "Stella Summer, 18 years old."
- Considering the current situation of the Summers, it's understandable that a family with a daughter would be highly sought after. Why would they allow their daughter to marry at such a young age?
- As their only child, she has undoubtedly been spoiled since childhood. The chances of her being forced to marry someone she doesn't want to are even slimmer.
- "I can't stand women who lie!" Marcus said coldly.
- His expression towards her turned icy, as if he wanted to throw her from the car.
- Alarm bells rang in Stella's heart as she braced herself against the car door. Her delicate face showed fierce determination. "It's the truth! I'm not lying! My parents are pressuring me to marry the fourth son of the Farleys for business reasons!"
- Marcus was taken aback.
- Stella continued, "I'm just 18, yet the Farleys' fourth son is already 26. He's so old and still chasing after younger girls!"
- Marcus remained silent.
- Stella continued, "You must have heard about how strange that fourth son is, with his unpredictable moods. A man from such a wealthy family who isn't married by 26 might have serious psychological issues! He could even have health problems, which means if I marry him, I'll be living in constant fear and might end up a widow!"
- Marcus still listened to her words.
- Stella added, "I will never marry someone like him!"
- Marcus was furious now.
- Andrew cautiously stole a glance at Marcus' expression through the rearview mirror and, in that instant, felt an overwhelming chill.
- He quickly looked away and instinctively turned up the heat in the car.
- Julian discreetly wiped the sweat from his sleeve, wondering if this Ms. Summers had been sent by fate to handle Marcus.
- She had previously saved Mr. Marcus' life in Hawthorn, and now she had left him in such a state.
- Did she even know or remember who the man in front of her was?
- Suddenly, he recalled Old Mr. Farley's repeated instructions earlier that day, emphasizing that Marcus must return to the Farley Mansion for an important matter. Could this important matter be related to the marriage between Mr. Marcus and Ms. Summers?
- "Mr. Mar—" Julian was about to say something, but Marcus silenced him with a glance.
- He had already anticipated what Julian wanted to say.
- With deep, inscrutable eyes, Marcus fixed his gaze on Stella and said flatly, "There's something you might not be aware of. The Farley's fourth son was in a car accident at 17 and lost the ability to walk on his own."
