Chapter 4

  • Neon’s perspective
  • My chest was heavy from my pent-up anger, and the veins on my forehead were visible. My wolf had been restless since the evening the mating ritual started.
  • It has kept us on the edge, Jax was nervous, and I don’t know what it was. He was never the one to show any emotions. He was showing emotions that I couldn’t decipher, and it was starting to agitate me.
  • The mating ceremony started in the upper room in Vegas Bar, I arranged for security and no one could come except a member of my pack but we lived in New York City and among humans who didn’t know about our identity as werewolves since we were in disguise.
  • Vegas Bar was one of the businesses I had a partnership with.
  • For some hours now, I have been pent up than usual. Something about today felt strange.
  • I took a lighter and decided to smoke on the balcony.
  • I wheezed the smoke into the air and rolled up my sleeve. There’s no way I could let Jax out, not tonight.
  • ‘It's mate! I have a feeling she’s close. I have never felt this way before. She’s close. Mate is here.’ Jax purred.
  • ‘What did you just say? Mate!’
  • How was that possible?
  • I have been looking for my mate for the past ten years, but I haven’t found her.
  • What the fuck was Jax talking about, that mate was here?
  • ‘That’s not possible. She can’t be here.’
  • ‘I can sense her, Neon.’ He growled in my head.
  • I was about to sniff the air like a hound dog in the bar when my Beta Silas came to me and tapped me over the shoulders.
  • “Alpha the ritual has already started. Everyone is looking for you.”
  • “Now?” I frowned at him.
  • “Yes.”
  • I was the leader of the werewolves in the city, and we were about a hundred around the city, and Silas knows when he had to call me an Alpha.
  • I tossed the cigarette off and rolled down my sleeve. I walked back to the room with Silas and that was when I got the scent.
  • Jax purred in my head to prove that he was right.
  • The scent was becoming so strong inflicting our senses to go high on alert, and lost control.
  • Could what Jax said be true?
  • Why couldn’t I find her ever since?
  • I had so many questions.
  • I couldn’t speak.
  • I want to see her now.
  • “Where is she?” I yelled at Silas. He was startled at the sound of my voice.
  • I couldn’t control myself as my wolf surged forward, my eyes turning red, and growled in his face. “Where is mate?”
  • Silas lowered his eyes and bowed, submitting to my wolf.
  • “Boss, I don’t know what...”
  • I grab him by the neck and hold him above the ground, my anger coming in waves. My wolf was in control of my body, and it made it a bit difficult for me to take control back.
  • We’ve searched everywhere for a mate for the past years. When we turned eighteen, what we wanted to do was find our mate.
  • We traveled around because of it, we wanted to find her and rule as Alpha and Luna, but years passed and I lost hope.
  • I never found her and slowly slipped into thirty years of depression of not having my mate.
  • We gave up and stopped searching for her. We were going to make Diana a permanent Luna in the pack and take her as my chosen mate after the mating ritual.
  • But now I can sense my mate, she was so close.
  • Silas is thrashing with my hold. I release him, cursing at my wolf for not being able to keep his anger in check.
  • My claws went back to normal, and my eyes changed back to blue.
  • “Is your mate here, Alpha?” Silas whispered.
  • I nodded and ruffled my hair.
  • I could sense her, she was around her.
  • “I didn’t know that.” He replied quietly.
  • I sensed her when we entered the upper room in the bar.
  • “Look around for anything usual and inform me about it,” I ordered.
  • He bowed and left. I sighed and slammed my fist on the table.
  • ‘She’s here.’ I heard Jax in my head again.
  • ‘Fuck.’ I groaned.
  • I was getting anxious, though I hadn’t even seen her yet.
  • I started to look around the themed bar that we were using for our mating ritual between werewolves. The color of our pack was black, and that was why most of my members had black outfits.
  • I froze when her eyes met with mine just for a brief moment.
  • My mind was in a complete freak-out, I was nervous. I, Alpha Neon have never been nervous.
  • My wolf and I have never thought this day would come when we would see mate.
  • It made me bitter for years that I couldn’t find my soulmatewhen others found theirs, I had to organize a mating ritual every year, still mate less.
  • Because of it, I ruled the pack with an iron fist, and a cold heart, having no mate it was easier for me to do reckless things because there was no one to get hurt except me.
  • Standing some distance away was like the perfect thing I had ever seen.
  • But...
  • She was being harassed by Jeff and his men.
  • I growled and made my way towards them.
  • When I got close to them, her smells of vanilla and roses were intoxicating.
  • ‘She’s my mate.’ Jax spit out in dominance.
  • My hands were starting to sweat as I made a replied to my wolf. ‘I can’t believe she’s here.’
  • I felt the urge to kill those men right here but I couldn’t do that in front of mate.
  • She looked so frightened.
  • How dare Jeff touch her?
  • When she turned and stared at me. Her big round cinnamon eyes looked so beautiful, her small face and defined figures in that short dress were perfect.
  • She was probably in her early twenties.
  • I don’t want to see any male wolf close to her or human except me.
  • I was towering over her, and I wanted to have her body squeezed against mine.
  • I want her.
  • All of her.
  • But Jax and I couldn’t feel her wolf.
  • And she had no idea who I was to her.
  • My eyes not leaving her face for a moment.
  • I was scared, she would disappear if I did.
  • ‘She has no wolf.’ Jax confirmed my thoughts.
  • If she has no wolf, that only means my mate was human.
  • Humans were considered weak, and our pack was against having humans with us. Humans were never allowed in the pack. It has been so for hundreds of years we never got mated with humans, they were simply for pleasure.
  • I have a mate, she was human.
  • It sounded so unbelievable.
  • Why would the Moon Goddess give me a human mate? When it has never been heard that werewolves were mated to humans in my pack.
  • I hated that she was not my species. Why was my mate, not a wolf?
  • With the innocence in her eyes, she had no idea she was in a mating ritual with werewolves.
  • I was furious with the feeling that she was human.
  • I clenched my jaw and marched towards Jeff and his men.
  • I won’t spare him from hurting her.
  • After dealing with Jess, I took my little mate to a room in the bar and placed her on the bed gently. What she drank was a mixture of werewolves alcohol drink, it was strong for a human like her.
  • I lay her head against the pillow and treated the cut on her thigh and her bruised wrist. She had passed out in my arms.
  • I moved closer, and brushed her hair off her face, staring down at her, my hand rested on her cheek, and I called her affectionately.
  • “Mate.”
