Chapter 6 I'm The One Who Wants To Divorce

  • However, Spencer merely cast her a nonchalant look and brushed past her. Immediately after Wrenley questioned him, regret crept over her, especially when she caught the indifference in his eyes.
  • Why would she have such thoughts in her mind? After a year as husband and wife, she knew his personality, and he wasn't one who would be bothered to do something like that. Moreover, he had no reason to do so.
  • Spencer stopped in his tracks after a few seconds and looked back, seeing her face ridden with awkwardness. "Are you going to keep standing there?"
  • Only then did Wrenley snap back to her senses and look up, only to see that he had already gone ahead in a composed stance, and she followed behind after taking a deep breath.
  • In the huge living room decorated with traditional furnishings that gave the place an imposing air, George hit his walking stick on the floor strongly. His old voice carried dominance as he demanded, "Tell me, why are you divorcing out of the blue when everything is going well?"
  • When Wrenley kept mum, Sarah Hendricks, Spencer's mother, said softly, "Wrenley, everyone is here today, so just voice out any grievances you may have." Throwing a nasty look at Spencer, who appeared as though everything was unrelated to him, she continued, "If Spen has done you any wrong, we will be your judge."
  • She knew her son like the back of her palm. Despite having an indifferent personality, he wouldn't do anything overboard.
  • Wrenley felt really uncomfortable. In the past year, when she was married to Spencer, the Pearson elders treated her genuinely well. While she didn't want to lie to them, she also did not want to tell everything honestly, especially not when Spencer was in the same room.
  • As though out of patience, George hit Spencer's arm with his walking stick and startled everyone.
  • "Grandpa…" Jerking up her head, Wrenley met Spencer's dark gaze and felt a lump stuck in her throat.
  • "Speak up! What have you done?" George asked, full of authority.
  • Wearing a smirk on his face, Spencer narrowed his eyes as he stared fixedly at the startled woman before him, his thoughts unreadable. "I'm just as curious to find out what I have done that she's forcing me into a divorce."
  • "W-What?" Wrenley almost couldn't catch her breath, gaping at him with enlarged eyes. What did he mean by saying that she forced him?
  • To begin with, he was in the wrong by toying with her feelings and taking her for a fool. Moreover, he spent the night with another woman, but now, he was dumping the blame on her.
  • All of a sudden, her heart was jumbled up with feelings—anxiousness mixed with fury and resentment—and her eyes reddened, clear for all to see her emotions.
  • This made the elders sink into thought at the situation as their eyes reverted back and forth between them.
  • Spencer's face turned another shade darker. If it wasn't because now was an inconvenient time, he would like to ask her the reason she was looking so aggrieved and what he had done to her.
  • Suddenly, Wrenley rose to her feet and bowed to everyone. "It's true that I'm the one who brought up the divorce, and we have already signed the necessary documents. The reason is simply because we couldn't get along and were not suited for each other."
  • "T-This…"
  • Her firm attitude shocked everyone. Meanwhile, Spencer's face turned even darker, but not a word came from him as he merely glowered at her.
  • Just then, Samantha shouted from the doorway, "Just let her have the divorce that she wants, and don't stop her. Back then, she married Spen because she was shameless—"
  • "Shut it!" Francesca Sharp, Spencer's grandmother, snapped in a sharp tone.
  • Rolling her eyes, Samantha folded her arms across her chest and paced next to Wrenley, whispering into her ear, "It surprises me that you still have some dignity and know where you stand."
  • Wrenley balled up her fists and bowed deeply again. "I'm sorry I made everyone worry, but I must divorce Spencer. I'm taking my leave now." Then, she spun on her heels and left.
  • "Wrenley!" With a palm over her chest, Francesca glared at Spencer. "Why aren't you going after her?"
  • Samantha groaned, "Why should Spen go after her? He doesn't even like—" She had yet to finish her sentence when Spencer got up and left in big strides.
  • While walking away, Wrenley felt someone grabbing her arm tightly and was yanked backward.
  • "What's this? Let me go!" She lifted her head at him, a little out of breath.
