Chapter 9 Survivors
- Once Lewis was found by those people, the outcome was obvious!
- Rustle… Lights from torches and the sound of figures hurrying in his direction came from the front. Under these circumstances, where Lewis did not know who those people were, his expression changed drastically as he spun around and slowly made his way back to where he came from, trying to make as little noise as possible.
- Seeing that the torches were not coming after him, he heaved a breath of relief. Then, he did not linger. He turned around and returned in the direction he came from, moving at a high speed with the help of the moonlight. As he didn’t know who those people were, he didn’t dare to stop, nor did he dare to approach them rashly.
- By the time Lewis returned to the cave, it was midnight. He knocked on the wooden wicket gate, then waited quietly for a while. However, there was no response from within.
- “Suzy! It’s me!” he called out, knocking on the door again.
- “Lewis!” Suzy cried out, sounding close to tears when she heard his voice. Then, she hurriedly opened the wooden wicket gate for him. He had built this wooden wicket gate nearby a few days back.
- Upon entering the cave, the exhaustion showed on his face. He worriedly asked, “How was it? Nothing came by, right?”
- “Lewis, I think somebody came by in the evening. They knocked on the door a few times, but I didn’t say anything. After a while, they left,” she anxiously reported.
- “Hmm?” He frowned immediately. Through the faint firelight within the cave, he could tell that she wasn’t lying to him.
- Still… if somebody came by, that meant that they knew there were people here. Then… who are those people? Are they survivors? Or, the indigenous people of the island? He didn’t know the answers to his questions, but he knew one thing, This place has been discovered! Suzy and I might be in danger.
- “Lewis, what happened to the monster?” Suzy asked worriedly. She couldn’t forget what Lewis had said about it—that monster was very vengeful.
- “It’s dead. It was killed by others. It was too dark; I couldn’t tell whether that group of people were survivors or indigenous people of the island,” Lewis answered gravely.
- “What?” she exclaimed in surprise.
- “That monster led me there on purpose. It also fell into their trap on purpose. It deliberately wanted to make those people think that I was its companion. I think those people might come searching in our direction tomorrow. Still, as long as we don’t know what kind of people they are, we will be in danger. On this island, humans are more terrifying than beasts!” he sternly continued.
- “T-Then, what do we do?” she continued asking worriedly.
- “Rest first. Tomorrow, we’ll take a look at what you said—” Rustle… Before he finished his sentence, a strange sound came from outside the cave. It caused him to turn toward the direction of the sound reflexively, solemnly staring outside the cave. Have those people discovered this place?
- “Okay…”
- All of a sudden, he found that there was an extra person in his arms. The trembling figure lay in his arms, rubbing against his body.
- This… At that moment, he realized that his breathing was turning ragged and his body was burning from her trembling body rubbing against his. He felt like crying suddenly. Suzy, this little fox! Doesn’t she know how arousing her body is to a man?
- Whoosh… The whistling sound of the wind came from the cave entrance suddenly. Thus, Lewis breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, it was just the sound of the wind and the rustling of leaves. Still… even Suzy, who was petrified, had noticed how aroused he was from his ragged breathing and burning body. That made her raise her head slightly as she looked at him blushingly.
- How could she not know what Lewis wanted to do at this moment? Her eyes were full of grievances; it looked like desire…
- “Lewis, will you abandon me?” Suzy sounded close to tears and fearfully said, “I know I’m useless. Besides, I nearly killed us both! But, I’m scared! I listened to everything you said today. I came back to the cave obediently and waited for your return! Will you abandon me?!”
- “For the very reason that you are a coward, I won’t abandon you! At the very least, you wouldn’t try to harm me! Right now, it has been over half a month since the Dreamliner was shipwrecked. Those that managed to survive have some sort of means to do so. Otherwise, it would be impossible for them to survive on this island!” Lewis gravely said.
- Perhaps, Suzy was both lucky and unlucky! If she had not been washed ashore with Lewis, she would have either survived determinedly or died early in the game. However, she had met him, though, whether that was a fortunate encounter or otherwise remained to be seen. The bright side was that she was still alive. On the flip side, they didn’t know how much longer they could survive. After all, being surrounded by the fear of death every single day was a torment in and of itself.
- “Thank you!” Suzy thanked him. She proactively pecked him on the lips, then ran away. She had considered having relations with him one day, but she did not wish to be so easy.
- “Alright; let’s rest for tonight,” Lewis said indifferently, shaking his head when he saw her avoiding him. Right now, I don’t even have the leisure to think about that. Who were those people the Nightsnare had brought me to? Who was it that knocked on our door tonight? I don’t know…
- Leaning against the stone wall, he closed his eyes quietly. After a while, she went over to his side and lay down in his arms. Holding her in his arms, he soon fell into a deep sleep. This made her, who was extremely anxious, feel slightly relieved. Thank goodness he’s not going to do anything!
- Then, she closed her eyes slightly and fell asleep too. It was the first time he slept peacefully since coming to this island. Without the threat of the Nightsnares hanging over his head, he slept deeply.
- The next day, Lewis slept until the sun came up. When he woke up, he noticed Suzy sprawled out, sleeping on the hay covered floor. She, too, was sleeping very deeply. He walked to the entrance of the cave and stretched lazily, then closed his eyes as he enjoyed the warmth of the rising sun.
- “Lewis! Lewis!” From within the cave came Suzy’s uneasy voice. Thus, he hurriedly replied, “I’m outside!”
- “Phew! That scared me to death! I was wondering where you went!” she said in relief. How can I not worry if he’s gone? Compared to sticking with me, who always drags him down, he is more likely to find new companions! With that, he would have a higher possibility of figuring out how to get off the island! On the contrary, what else can I do, besides being a burden for him?
- “It’s still very early in the morning; aren’t you going to sleep for a while more?” he asked gently, watching as she walked out of the cave.
- “What are you doing? Tai Chi?” she asked curiously. She studied his slow movements as he faced the sun and practiced Tai Chi.
- “It’s ancient-style Tai Chi! It’s the earliest form of Tai Chi in the Henderson Family!” he replied.
- “Huh?” she curiously asked.
- “It’s the Henderson-style Tai Chi. I don’t know when it started being passed down within the family, but every member of the Henderson Family has to master this form of Tai Chi. The Henderson Family’s brand of Tai Chi is different from the usual Tai Chi. This style can help to increase body coordination and make the body more unified. Moreover, it consists of all kinds of moves. It’s not just showy moves, but embodies actual killing techniques! What I’m practicing right now isn’t the killing techniques, but the portion which helps to coordinate the body better. This portion can help you better understand the limits of your body. More importantly, it makes your reflexes faster, your movements lighter, and your speed faster. You’ll be able to move with the speed of lightning, or as slow as a turtle.” He paused. Then, he turned around, looked at her, and continued, “Do you want to learn it? I can teach you. Although it's not supposed to be taught to anybody outside the Henderson Family, there are no other members of the Henderson Family here on this island anyway. Nobody would know even if I taught it to you!”
- Lewis believed that the island was becoming more and more dangerous—there were times when he didn’t have enough strength to protect both her and himself. Thus, he wanted to teach Suzy his family’s Tai Chi. If she had enough strength to protect herself, that would be the greatest help she could offer him right now.
