Chapter 4 New Neighbors Downstairs

  • Cayden immediately searched on his phone after hearing this and showed it to Raelynn. "Raely, are you sure? The rent there is exorbitant."
  • Raelynn rolled her eyes at him. "Caydy, don't butt in. It's not like we can't afford it. High-end neighborhoods have quality men. Maybe Mommy can meet a handsome guy and end her single life."
  • Wendalyn tousled her daughter's hair, not taking her joke seriously, and replied casually, "Alright, we'll live there."
  • Returning to Quenlydale, Wendalyn hadn't planned on compromising the quality of living for her children. This neighborhood indeed met her standards.
  • She quickly took Raelynn and Cayden to the domestic arrivals pickup point at Gate C. Once the car arrived, they got in and left without delay.
  • Meanwhile, on the other side of the airport.
  • The staff from the Maberry Family were eagerly waiting at the international arrivals Gates A and B, holding a sign that read "Arwen."
  • ...
  • Equirrion Residence was Quenlydale’s premier high-end enclave, boasting a beautiful environment and excellent security measures.
  • Wendalyn rented a place with Raelynn and Cayden directly from the property management - Block A, 26th Floor.
  • After entering the apartment, she quickly freshened up. She patted Raelynn and Cayden's heads as she said, "Sweeties, I am going to the nearby grocery store to buy some daily necessities. Be good at home, okay?"
  • Raelynn waved her hand. "Mommy, don't worry. We can take care of ourselves."
  • "Especially you, play fewer games; they're bad for your eyes," Wendalyn reminded with concern.
  • "Got it," Raelynn promised firmly.
  • After giving Raelynn and Cayden a kiss each, Wendalyn left.
  • In the apartment, as soon as Wendalyn left, Raelynn immediately opened her computer.
  • Cayden, accustomed to this, sighed. As expected, once Mommy leaves, Raely shows her true colors.
  • He picked up a book and nestled into the couch.
  • Soon, the sound effects of the game filled the room, along with the rapid clicking of Raelynn's keyboard and her constant chatter.
  • "Hey, there's an ambush! Help me!" she exclaimed.
  • In the next instant, her voice echoed again. "I'm bleeding! I'm bleeding! Please spare my life! Oh my, I'm dead!"
  • Once more, Raelynn's voice resounded. "Hey, why are you yelling at me? I didn't want to die either!"
  • After a while, Raelynn suddenly removed her headphones, clenched her teeth, and exclaimed, "What kind of teammate is this? I lost, and he's mocking me. I'm going to report him!"
  • Without hesitation, she clicked on the report button, then turned to Cayden, seeking solace. "Caydy, I lost the game and got scolded by my teammate. I feel so disheartened. I crave durians."
  • Cayden shook his head, well aware of Raelynn's gaming addiction and peculiar cravings.
  • He struggled to comprehend the enjoyment of playing a game where losses outnumbered victories. And it was a recurring pattern - each defeat soured Raelynn's mood, leading to cravings for peculiar indulgences.
  • With a resigned sigh, he said, "You continue playing for a while. I'll finish reading these pages and then go downstairs to buy it."
  • "Okay!" Raelynn replied cheerfully, starting a new game.
  • Meanwhile, on Block A, 27th Floor, in the expansive room spanning over three thousand square feet, a deafening roar suddenly erupted, "D*mn it!"
  • At the computer desk, a figure barely over three feet two inches tall, resembling a miniature version of Cayden, stared at the screen in disbelief.
  • He had been reported by his teammate and subsequently banned!
  • As he witnessed his "Carsie-Lou" ID being banned, his heart shattered like shards of glass scattered on the floor!
  • He had dedicated countless hours to this account, day and night!
  • Surviving felt like an uphill battle, especially with stern king Daddy breathing down his neck.
  • Gritting his teeth in anger, he dialed a phone number. "Mr. Lowe, my game account got banned. Please assist me."
  • There was a moment of silence on the other end.
  • Then Timothy's voice, low and reproachful, resonated, "Carson, you're neglecting your studies once more, and you're playing games again?"
  • Carson Maberry froze. Oh, help me! Why is it stern king Daddy who has to answer the phone?
  • "It's not what it seems, Daddy. Let me argue... No, I mean, let me explain..."
  • "I'll deal with you when I get home." The voice on the other end was icy and resolute, followed by the abrupt end of the call.
  • Oh no, this time it's not just about my account getting banned; I might be in serious trouble too!
  • He swiftly turned his head to gaze intently at the computer screen, fixating on the account named "RaeLinnie".
  • It's entirely her fault! If it weren't for her report, I wouldn't be banned, and Daddy wouldn't catch me.
  • Carson gritted his teeth and promptly retrieved the "RaeLinnie" ID, then traced his IP address.
  • Half an hour later, he finally discovered the location.
  • He realized that the tattletale actually resided downstairs from him!
  • Carson's youthful face contorted with resentment as he rose and prepared to confront the tattletale.
  • ...
  • On the other side, in an Uber.
  • Wendalyn had completed her shopping and was en route home.
  • Feeling bored in the car, she casually inserted the phone card she used in Quenlydale into her phone.
  • Although she hadn't utilized this SIM card during her five years abroad, she had diligently kept up with renewing the phone credit.
  • Upon inserting the SIM card, a flood of messages inundated her phone.
  • She casually sifted through them, discovering messages from Timothy admonishing her, friends extending greetings, but most were from her cold-hearted dad, Kaleb Gardner.
  • Over those five years, Kaleb appeared even more eager to contact her than Timothy.
  • After deliberation, she opted to return his call.
  • The call connected, devoid of pleasantries, as Kaleb angrily demanded, "Wendalyn, you finally decide to return my call. Where have you been for these five years?"
  • "What's the matter?" Wendalyn's tone was detached and distant.
  • Ever since her mom's difficult childbirth and subsequent demise, followed by the arrival of the new lady of the Gardner Family who had exiled her to the countryside, she had long severed ties with this family.
  • On the other end, Kaleb's tone was commanding, as if issuing orders. "I don't care where you are, but hurry up and come back. You must divorce Timothy."
  • "Now the company is in dire straits and urgently requires investment. You've offended Mr. Maberry in the past. As long as you remain Mrs. Maberry, he won't consent to investing in the Gardner Family."
  • Unable to suppress a chuckle, Wendalyn remarked, "Oh, so you're in such a rush to contact me for this matter. Divorce is acceptable, but what terms are you offering in exchange?"
