Chapter 7
- Roxanne's POV:
- I grabbed a shirt out of the wardrobe and put it on, knowing very well it was my mate's shirt from the amazing scent it had.
- After he walked out, I went to take a bath to remove the drops of blood that had splattered all over my body.
- Now that I was done cleaning myself up, I was thinking of a way to run away.
- Looking out the window, I could see that the sun was setting and soon it would be nightfall. I was very concerned about my parents; they were obviously starting to worry. I just hoped they wouldn't try to follow me in any way, no matter what.
- When the door opened, I tensed and stayed still, not wanting to turn around.
- The door closed and my mate's strong scent invaded my nose. His scent was very different from most scents I had ever inhaled. It was like muddy rain mixed with a little whiskey, vanilla, and strawberry. It was supposed to make me feel nauseated, knowing how much I hated strawberry, vanilla, and whiskey. Yet it made me feel so calm and relaxed. I loved his scent.
- When I heard his clothes rustle, I frowned.
- What was he doing without saying a word?
- I quickly turned when I heard the bed creak.
- He was lying there with his back towards me. His silky hair, which now looked wavy, was let loose and his shirt and ribbon were on the ground.
- I looked at him, trying to figure out what he was actually doing and thinking. He was definitely a smart man, so he wasn't really planning to sleep. Either way, I was going to make a run for it, but first, I needed to have a conversation with him to lower his guard a bit.
- "So, do you sleep at night like other supernatural beings do?" I asked and waited for his response.
- When I was met with silence, I moved closer to take a good look at him.
- He really had a great build and his muscles flexed sexily, but something that caught my attention were a few scars on his back, two of which looked deeper than the rest.
- I couldn't stop myself at that moment. I found myself on the bed, brushing my fingers against the scars gently.
- My heart felt heavy and my eyes were blurred with tears forming.
- I wanted to know how he had acquired them.
- "Was he still in pain? What happened to him?" Those questions were going through my mind.
- A low groan escaped from him, causing me to drop my hand and quickly move away from the bed, standing up.
- "Is he asleep?" I silently asked Astrid when a few minutes passed in silence once again.
- "No," came her serious response.
- "How about we put that to the test?" I suggested.
- Before she could respond, I swiftly went to the door and opened it. Without looking back, I dashed outside, running towards the main entrance.
- Once I was outside, I glanced back to ensure he wasn't following me.
- Seeing that he wasn't, I turned and began running, passing by numerous houses.
- "Roxanne, stop and go back!" Astrid exclaimed.
- "Never!" I responded, leaping into the air and shifting into my wolf form, continuing to run.
- "Roxanne, please think this through. How could he have let us go so easily? Moreover, all the streets are empty, which doesn't make any sense," she said loudly. I huffed in relief as a forest came into view. All I had to do was cross a tar road that lay between me and the forest.
- Just as I was about to jump onto the tar road, I collided with a solid wall, causing me to stumble back and fall with a low whimper.
- My head throbbed with pain, and my vision was slightly blurry.
- I got up on all fours and shook my head to clear the dizziness I was experiencing.
- "Astrid, what's going on?" I silently asked as I shifted back into my human form.
- She was quiet, but I could feel how anxious she was becoming.
- I raised my hand and moved forward, trying to figure out what I had hit into. It was definitely something.
- When my hand pressed against an invisible shield, I gasped loudly.
- "What?" I whispered as I moved my hand side to side to make sure it really was an invisible shield.
- "Astrid, was it why he lowered his guard on purpose? Did he..."
- "Ouch!" I screamed out in pain, cutting my sentence short when my hair was roughly grabbed.
- "What are you... ah!" I screamed out again as I stumbled, trying to keep up with my mate who was now dragging me back to the castle.
- My scalp was burning, and my breath was becoming labored.
- I knew he was pissed off with me, but I wasn't going to let him treat me like some cheap slut he owned.
- I angrily grabbed his wrist, clawing at him.
- He immediately let go of me with a low rumble that scared me.
- He looked at his badly bleeding hand in silence. When he looked at me, I knew there and then I had dug my own grave because his eyes were back to those I had seen before.
- Without thinking, I turned back and began running towards my left side, hoping I could find a way out.
- I gasped in pain when I was hit from behind and sent flying in mid-air, landing on the ground head first.
- My head felt like it was ripping in two, and the side of my legs was badly hurting.
- I was struggling to breathe, and I tasted my own blood filling my mouth.
- My vision was getting blurry, and there was a high-pitched sound in my ears.
- I coughed out blood and forced myself to crawl forward, but when a terrifying growl that shook the whole place came from behind me, I instantly froze in place with tears running down my face.
- This was the first time since I was born that I was scared for my life and in so much pain.
- For the first time, I was afraid of the mate I was hoping to meet and learn to love. It was clear that he was beyond reason and that he was going to kill me without a care.
- I lowered my head to the ground, on the dirt, and sobbed silently.
- The words I could force out of my mouth before succumbing to the dark were:
- "Mom, Dad, I'm scared."
