Chapter 5 Run Away

  • Lucian's POV:
  • In the early morning, after I had finished dealing with the pack matters, I returned home only to find an unsettling level of silence.
  • Kathryn's scent seemed to have faded quite a bit.
  • Usually at this time, she would be preparing breakfast, but today, she was nowhere to be found in the kitchen.
  • I went upstairs and headed toward the bedroom, which turned out to be eerily empty as well.
  • Did she go out?
  • The last few years, she seldom left the house. Whenever I returned home, she would always have delicious food ready, waiting for my return.
  • I felt a bit parched, so I poured myself a cup of coffee. As I sat down at the coffee table, I suddenly noticed a document and a bank card left on the table.
  • The document was a divorce agreement.
  • Divorce?
  • Suddenly, I remembered the conversation I had with Kathryn last night.
  • Lucian, let's get a divorce.
  • At the time, I received a call from my beta, stating that there was an urgent matter within the pack that needed my attention. I left in a hurry, without truly contemplating the implications of those words.
  • The concept of divorce among human partners seemed to imply the dissolution of a romantic relationship, right?
  • She wanted to end our relationship?
  • Why?
  • My heart filled with rage as my wolf began to howl.
  • No alpha could ever accept the sudden dissolution of a relationship with a luna they had marked for three years!
  • None!
  • My hand tightly clutched those few thin sheets of paper.
  • Werewolves never married or divorced. Once they chose a mate, it was for life, until death.
  • Divorce was merely an excuse that humans came up with to justify their fragile and wavering hearts. As long as I refused to accept it, my luna can only dream of separating from me!
  • I picked up the divorce agreement and tore it up right away.
  • Then, I unlocked my phone and reached out to my subordinates, instructing them to immediately find out where my luna had gone.
  • I paced back and forth within the house I shared with Kathryn, feeling restless and uneasy due to my mate's absence.
  • If Kathryn was a werewolf, I would have found her by following her scent long ago. But d*mn it, she was a human!
  • This infuriating human woman, why did she suddenly leave me?
  • I tried hard to remain composed, reflecting on her behavior before she uttered those words.
  • She had mentioned we only had sex five times in a month.
  • Was she dissatisfied with the frequency of our lovemaking?
  • But that wasn't my fault!
  • Every night, I yearned to make love to her, wildly and without any reservations!
  • Yet, her passage was so narrow that no amount of lubricant I used seemed to make a difference. How could I bear to let the number of times she was injured increase?
  • Five times a month was already the absolute limit.
  • The Moon Goddess could be my witness to how I would numb myself with work every day, all to avoid ravishing her.
  • My wealth was accumulating, yet my luna had run away!
  • F*ck!
  • I clutched my head in agony.
  • Finally, my phone rang. My beta informed me that Kathryn had been found.
  • She was at a fashion design studio called Lush Moon, located in the old streets of Bearscaster. Since she went there last night, she hadn't come out.
  • What was she doing there?
  • How could she have not returned home overnight!
  • I was getting ready to head out and bring my luna back home, but just before I stepped out, Juliette called.
  • I answered her call while making my way to the garage to get the car.
  • “Alpha, would you accompany me to Lush Moon to buy a bag? The designs by Serenity are quite unique, so I'm worried that if I go by myself—”
  • I didn't bother listening to what Juliette said after that as a crucial keyword caught my attention - Lush Moon. Wasn't that the place Kathryn had gone to?
  • Since our destination was the same, I might as well pick up Juliette on the way.
  • “Sure, I'll come pick you up.” In my haste to return home last night and then dealing with pack matters, I had forgotten that Juliette's body was still recovering from her injury. If she could stay with me for a few more hours, she should be able to fully recover.
