- Vera couldn't tell who trembled more, Hannah or herself, as she guided her into the house, and they sat on a leather-made bench in the kitchen. She had never seen her friend's house in disarray, no matter how determined her kids were at breaking, disarranging, and making a mess of things.
- Somehow, Hannah managed to be a good mother as she was a good wife who loved keeping everything tidy and in order.
