Chapter 10 One Night Stand

  • Chapter Ten
  • Kayla's POV
  • Not in the mood to anger Bruce more than I already had, I set an alarm for six o'clock even if I wasn't usually a morning person.
  • When the alarm rang, I had the strongest urge to snooze it but I wasn't ready to have Bruce on my ass again.
  • The bathroom connected to my room was big and the bathtub in there made me want to spend more time in the bathroom. Today wasn't any different.
  • However, I avoided the tub and took a quick shower instead. I didn't have many work clothes and if I didn't want to repeat my clothes every week, I'd have to go shopping for some new work clothes.
  • I went through my closet that I had arranged the day I arrived, picking out a black suit jacket and matching pants.
  • After putting on my clothes, I left my room to go to the kitchen. It was still to seven and I had a little time to whip up something for breakfast.
  • As soon as I was done cooking, Bruce entered the kitchen and saw me dishing the food into two different plates. After all he was doing for me, the least I could do was cook.
  • "Good morning." His deep and sultry voice was like music to my ears. I had to remind myself that this man was my best friend's father and even if we had already fucked twice, it seemed like he wasn't interested in having a repeat.
  • "Morning, Bruce." I returned the greeting, taking the plates to the kitchen aisle where he was already sitting down. "I made breakfast."
  • "I can see that." A small smirk fitted his lips. "You didn't have to do that though. Theresa made food last night that could be reheated."
  • "I saw that." I bit back. I knew how to cook my own meals and I wasn't interested in eating anything Theresa made. It seemed like Bruce knew that too because he shrugged, not furthering the topic.
  • We ate in silence after that and when we were done, Bruce offered to do the dishes. Seeing him do something so domestic made him even hotter and I found myself clenching my legs as I thought of him in ways I shouldn't.
  • Knowing that I may end up blurting something stupid if I stayed there any longer, I went back inside my room to retrieve my bag. When I was done, Bruce was ready to leave.
  • Like every other time, I expected a driver to take us to the company but Bruce drove us instead. When we arrived at the company, I couldn't stop my jaw from falling at the sight.
  • Considering this was not the only building his company owned, it was still very huge. I could get lost in it if care wasn't taken. I'd need a fucking map to navigate this place.
  • There were so many floors and I couldn't put a number on them. I wondered just how rich Bruce was. He was probably a multi-billionaire.
  • "Close your mouth, baby girl. You'll catch flies."
  • My mouth snapped shut and I turned to stare at him. "Baby girl?" I echoed the phrase.
  • "Do you have a problem with it?" I shook my head. I actually liked when he called me babygirl. Did that mean he was still interested in me? "Good. We've been in the car for a few minutes now. I think it's time we got out."
  • "Right." I blushed, undid my seatbelt, and pushed the car door open.
  • I waited for Bruce by the side of the car and he led me into the building.
  • Everyone stopped what they were doing to greet the boss and the attention I got just because I was by his side was overwhelming.
  • He kept a considerable distance between us and I had a feeling he wanted us to maintain a professional relationship in his workplace. While he returned the greetings to his employees, I could only smile and look around.
  • All eyes were on us as we got into the elevator. I assumed he'd be taking me to the last floor since his office was likely there but he stopped at a random floor.
  • He took me to the cooking area where there were a lot of workers. There wasn't just one kitchen but many because of how frequently food was ordered.
  • Bruce showed me a variety of Italian dishes that I had never seen before. They were mouthwatering and delicious and he allowed me to taste some of them.
  • He also showed me how their food was packaged and I was hooked. It was something I could see myself doing. I liked the joy that came with making food that people found delicious.
  • Even if the staff were busy, Bruce took his time introducing me to his employees. I'd read a few novels about billionaire bosses and Bruce was nothing like that. He wasn't cold or rude, especially not to his employees.
  • He seemed to know the personal lives of some of them and I figured that he made sure to make conversation with them outside work.
  • It was heartwarming to see Bruce in his element. He corrected some of the dishes and almost completely took over some but wasn't allowed to do so.
  • They ended up telling me to take him away and I did as told.
  • "You're quite controlling," I commented when we found ourselves in the elevator again.
  • "I just want everything to be perfect."
  • "I'm sure they'll be."
  • "Yeah." He breathed out, his shoulders still tense.
  • "Bruce." I laughed. "You hired them for a reason. You can't do everything."
  • "I know. I know. Some very influential people made orders for this afternoon and I don't want anything to fuck it up."
  • "It won't. You'll see."
  • I wasn't so sure but I wanted to reassure him. "You're right. I'll just check on them later in the day."
  • "If you can cook this good, why do you have Theresa cook for you?" I asked when the elevator doors opened but he didn't answer me.
  • Instead, he showed me the conference room where they had all the meetings. After that, he showed me to my office which was right next to his.
  • I didn't have much to do in the meantime. He told me that I'd join some meetings to properly learn about the business before I joined the kitchen team. For now, I'd be answering calls and taking orders.
  • While he told me all this, I was busy thinking about why he didn't answer my question.
