  • The numbers on the microwave’s clock taunted me as I paced the length of the kitchen. I'm pretty sure there are eyes on me, but I don't care. My anxiety has been sky-high since my dad's visit. With every turn, the green glow caught my eye and earned a sigh of despair. The ding resounds through my ear, sounding louder than it should be. I exhale loudly and take the donut out before walking out of the kitchen.

I didn't have to work, because I still had my savings from the writing gigs I used to do in high school. You'd be surprised how much desperate teens are willing to pay for essays, assignments, and even ghostwriting jobs. I was the guy for the job back then. My side hustle was low-key, mainly the fact that I was unpopular and a loner, I just left the advertisements for the people who had experienced my work to spread their testimonies around school. That brought the customers to me.
