• Callahan stared at her with a mix of emotions that Celine couldn’t decipher. One moment, his face softened, but the next, it was as if he was a stranger, his expression unreadable. He felt foreign to her, and that scared her.
• Her eyes locked with his, hoping he would say something, anything. She hoped he would believe her, and side with her. She had never asked him to listen before. Callahan used to surprise her, but now, she didn’t know him anymore.
• ‘Please. Just tell me you believe me, and I’ll hold on. Just tell me you’ll do something, and I won’t let go,’ she silently wished to herself, afraid to voice her thoughts, scared she would be disappointed.
