Chapter 16 You Are Heartless

  • The door opened once again, and Lin Fei emerged from the room, closing the door behind her and handing the documents to Lin Yuanfeng with a cold expression.
  • "Here are the documents you requested."
  • As Lin Yuanfeng eagerly opened and flipped through the blue-covered documents, his serious demeanor was replaced by a relieved smile. When he saw that the profit-sharing ratio was twenty percent, he couldn't help but smile with satisfaction. He reached out to pat Lin Fei's shoulder, but she evaded his touch. Undeterred, he praised her.
  • "Fei'er, you truly are a devoted daughter. You did an excellent job with this! Keep up the good work in the future."
  • "In the future?" Lin Fei looked at Lin Yuanfeng incredulously and sarcastically remarked, "You still expect there to be a future? Let me tell you, this kind of thing only happens once! Now that I've given you the documents, don't ever appear in my life again."
  • Lin Yuanfeng, realizing that she didn't consider him as her father at all, felt his anger resurface. He put on a stern fatherly demeanor.
  • "Fei'er! Is this how you speak to your father?"
  • "Father?" Lin Fei sneered, her eyes and eyebrows filled with endless mockery under the light.
  • "When you handed me over to Mr. Wang, did you ever think of yourself as my father? What right do you have now to use the title of father to suppress me?"
  • "You!" Lin Yuanfeng was momentarily speechless and could only glare at her in anger. "No matter what, I will always be your father! I have raised you for so many years. Without me, you wouldn't even be able to survive!"
  • Hearing this, Lin Fei's eyes reddened with anger, and she tightly clenched her hand. "So what? As long as I want to hide, you won't be able to find me."
  • "You..." Lin Yuanfeng was momentarily speechless. He didn't expect Lin Fei to have such thoughts. Remembering how she suddenly disappeared overseas before, he truly couldn't find her. He felt a hint of concern in his heart.
  • "So don't force me."
  • After saying that, Lin Fei turned coldly and inserted the key to open the door.
  • "Wait!" Lin Yuanfeng hurriedly reached out and grabbed Lin Fei's arm. He didn't want to let go of Lin Fei, who could fight for his interests.
  • Lin Fei disgustingly shook off his hand, her expression becoming extremely ugly. "What else do you want?"
  • Lin Yuanfeng's mind shifted, and a friendly smile appeared on his face. "Your mother knows you're back and wants you to come home for a meal. She says she hasn't seen you in a long time."
  • Lin Fei fell silent. If there was anything worth reminiscing about in that family, it was her mother.
  • She could never see Lin Yuanfeng again, but she would never miss seeing her mother...
  • "You can be angry with me, but your mother has been thinking about you every day since she found out you're back. At the very least, come home for a meal." Lin Yuanfeng softened his tone.
  • He knew Lin Fei's feelings towards her mother, which is why he chose to use her as an excuse.
  • Lin Fei began to hesitate.
  • In theory, there was no problem with going home for a meal, but she couldn't peacefully eat with Lin Yuanfeng.
  • But her mother...
  • Seeing Lin Fei's silence, a glimmer of hope flashed in Lin Yuanfeng's eyes as he spoke, "Then it's settled. You'll come home for a meal on Sunday. I'll leave first."
  • Without waiting for Lin Fei to respond, Lin Yuanfeng turned and left, satisfied. Even after the elevator doors closed, Lin Fei still couldn't make a decision about whether or not to go back.
  • Because of this incident, Lin Fei's mind remained unsettled, causing her to make a mistake the next day at work.
  • With her head down, her gaze fixed on the documents with circles drawn on them that were thrown on the table, she obediently endured the other person's ridicule.
  • "I thought I could only see this kind of low-level mistake from an idiot, but I didn't expect it from Secretary Lin... You've surprised me," Jiang Yihan leaned back in his comfortable chair, his eyes narrowed, coldly mocking.
  • Lin Fei kept her head down and obediently admitted her mistake, "It was my negligence. It won't happen again."
  • Her compliance surprised Jiang Yihan. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Isn't 'it won't happen again' Secretary Lin's catchphrase?"
  • "No."
  • Lin Fei lowered her head even more.
  • "That's good. I don't want to hear that phrase again," Jiang Yihan surprisingly didn't taunt her further.
  • Lin Fei put away the documents and left the CEO's office with her head down.
  • Closing the door, she leaned against the door panel and regretfully hit her head. It was just going back for a meal, why did she have to think so much? She even made a mistake at work because of this.
  • Han Li, who happened to pass by, saw Lin Fei looking dejected and thought she had been scolded by their boss again. Out of concern as a colleague, he asked, "Secretary Lin, did the CEO scold you again?"
  • Upon hearing this, Lin Fei shook her head, then nodded, and then vigorously shook her head again.
  • Han Li thought she had been scolded badly and comforted her, saying, "The president is strict with people at work, just don't make the same mistake next time."
  • Lin Fei nodded silently, sinking into a gloomy mood. Han Li noticed that something was wrong with Lin Fei's emotions and couldn't help but ask, "Secretary Lin... Did something happen to you?"
  • Lin Fei sighed, and her small face showed a worried expression. "Assistant Han, am I really stupid?"
  • Han Li was surprised and asked, "Why do you ask that?"
  • Lin Fei pouted, and her eyes began to turn red, looking like she had been bullied. "My friend's family had something happen recently and asked for my advice. I have been thinking about how to solve it properly, but I made a mistake at work and got scolded by the president. He said I'm so stupid that I'm useless."
  • Han Li thought about his own boss's cold and sarcastic remarks and believed that he could say such things. He didn't doubt it.
  • Seeing Lin Fei with red eyes, a faint sense of compassion arose in his heart, and he offered to help. "You can tell me about what happened to your friend, and I can help you come up with a solution."
  • This was exactly what Lin Fei wanted to hear!
  • She immediately changed the protagonist and the story when talking about Lin Yuanfeng and herself and told Han Li everything without missing a word, looking at him with shining eyes.
  • "Assistant Han, what do you suggest I do?"
  • After considering for a moment, Han Li replied, "If I were in your shoes, I might hesitate like your friend. However, if the protagonist were changed to the president, I would definitely make a decisive decision without any concerns."
  • Recalling the advice she had heard from Huang Jing, Lin Fei nodded in agreement and said, "I understand. I will call my friend and inform her later."
  • "Goodbye, Assistant Han!"
  • "..."
  • As she watched Lin Fei's figure disappear into the distance, Han Li silently added in his heart: Goodbye.
  • With a solution to her troubles in mind, Lin Fei's steps became lighter. She placed the documents on the table, slipped into the bathroom, closed the door, and dialed a number she hadn't called in a long time.
  • After a few rings, the call was answered.
  • Without waiting for the other person to speak, Lin Fei got straight to the point and stated her purpose, "I won't be coming home on Sunday. Please let Mom know, there's no need to prepare anything."
  • Lin Yuanfeng became furious. He thought Lin Fei had called to change her mind. "Are you really this heartless? You don't even want to come home and have a meal with your mom!"
  • "It's not that I'm heartless, it's that all of you are heartless," Lin Fei coldly replied.
