Chapter 14 What About Me
- Three seconds passed before someone couldn't help but exclaim, "Radiant Lotus! Oh my God, it's the Radiant Lotus, one of the two centerpiece jewels from the Brown Family's recent exhibit! I went to see that exhibit. This is definitely the Radiant Lotus."
- Everyone stared intently at the red pendant in the box in Heidi's hand.
- Gracie and her companions were stunned. "How is this possible? Did Ashton really give this?"
- They never imagined that Ashton could present such a priceless gift.
- "It's just a pendant. What's the big deal?" Heidi's aunt and uncle scoffed, unaware of Radiant Lotus' significance. To them, anything from Ashton couldn't be that valuable.
- But no sooner had they spoken than someone interjected, "Just a pendant? This one is worth 30 million!
- "T-thirty million?" Heidi's aunt and uncle's eyes widened in shock, their jaws dropping.
- Heidi's heart skipped a beat when she heard the gasps and murmurs around her. She forced her eyes open, only to find herself captivated by the pendant before her.
- She had often dreamed of wearing the Radiant Lotus, but she had never imagined it would actually be in her hands. Tears streamed down her face as she thought about her past misunderstandings and prejudices against Ashton, remembering all the harsh words she had thrown at him. Her guilt grew as she recalled his kindness, which starkly contrasted with the Griffin Family's cold treatment just now.
- "Dad, I want to call Ashton," she said, looking up at Harold.
- "Sure, I'll call him right now," Harold replied, quickly dialing Ashton's number and handing the phone to Heidi.
- The call connected almost instantly.
- "Ashton, I'm so sorry," Heidi sobbed.
- A moment later, Ashton's voice came through the phone. "Why are you crying? Did the Griffin Family bully you? Do you need me to stand up for you?"
- His voice held a touch of anger, just like when they were students, and he would protect her from bullies.
- Hearing his words, Heidi couldn't hold back her tears any longer. "Ashton, you've always been the one who loves and cares for me the most, but I was petty and misunderstood you. I'm so sorry, Ashton. I'm really sorry!"
- "It's alright," Ashton said with a chuckle. How could he ever stay mad at his little sister?
- "Can you come to my engagement party?" Heidi asked, her voice full of hope.
- Ashton was silent for a moment before he nodded. "Alright."
- Heidi's heart soared as she hung up the phone.
- At this moment, Amelie snorted. "Heidi, the auspicious time has come. Does your brother intend to disrupt the engagement party? If you're marrying into our family, you follow our rules. Now, let's proceed."
- Heidi bit her lip. "If Ashton doesn't come, I'm not getting married!"
- Klaus' face paled, and he quickly turned to Amelie. "Aunt Amelie, waiting a bit won't hurt."
- Amelie wasn't having any of it, though. Her face darkened, and she sneered. "Not getting married? Fine by me," she replied. "Our family doesn't want a lowly servant girl to be part of us anyway. You lot of inferior people have no right to connect with the Griffin Family!"
- So what if she has a brother who could gift the Radiant Lotus pendant?
- Amelie might have hesitated before. But now, the Griffin Family had the likes of John and Dylan personally attending their celebration. Heidi's brother was insignificant in her eyes.
- "Is that so?" A voice suddenly interrupted.
- Footsteps echoed from the entrance. A young man walked into Griffin Residence, each step resonating like a drumbeat in the hearts of those present.
- "I heard you say that my sister is a lowly servant girl, and marrying into the Griffin Family is an honor? I heard you say my parents are so unworthy they must sit in the back? I heard you call my family a bunch of inferior people?"
- Ashton's voice was emotionless, but each word felt weighty. His gaze, sharp as lightning, swept over the crowd before finally landing on Amelie. "So, what about me?"
