Chapter 14

• Burgess, his expression faintly amused, approached the bed with a smile playing on his lips. "Even though you really enjoyed it last night, you want me to pretend it didn't happen?" he remarked, his tone teasing. Before I could formulate a response, he continued, "Naive!"
• "You're naive!" I snapped, irritation prickling at my nerves as Burgess's words grated on me. Standing on the bed, wrapped tightly in the quilt, I attempted to assert dominance, as if I could somehow intimidate him with my height.
• But Burgess didn't seem fazed by my display of defiance. Instead, he casually wiped my wet hair with a towel, his voice calm and deliberate. "Since it has happened, running away isn't an option," he suggested, almost casually. "How about this? Our bodies fit well anyway, so I think we can maintain this relationship in the future."
