• Emma tried her hardest to sleep. She would never have left the house if she had known what would happen as a result of her departure. She felt terrible for Martha, who was almost in trouble because of her. But, at the same time, she understood it was no one's fault...but the cause for Alexander's rage remained a mystery to her.
• Her spine tingled at the thought of that man. She'd be better off without him around her. But she knew that wasn't going to happen. It was also his home, so he was free to visit the mansion whenever he pleased.
