Chapter 3 Don't Kill Anyone!
- Point of view of Abby
- It is incredible.
- I'm in a room with a bar on the window, with only a table, four chairs, a door that doesn't have a lock, and opaque glass. I bet you can see everything from the outside to the inside. I don't see them, but I'm sure it has cameras and microphones.
- I'm sitting in one of those chairs, and I've barely allowed myself to say a word. I'm shaking; I feel very cold, and it soaks me to the bone. I'm scared. I've held back my tears because I don't understand why they're questioning me.
- A pile of photos of the Ganash mansion is scattered on the table, all of them of the gardens. In them, you can see empty glasses on the grass, in another you can see my bag on a sun lounger, thrown at random, and in others, you can see the contents of it and the pool, with Ethan's body in the background wrapped in oilcloth and many more about the drained pool and with more details of the discovery.
- I can't believe Ethan is dead. I still don't understand how all this happened. I would like to cry, Ethan is dead. And what frustrates me the most is that I don't remember anything that happened after what José told me.
- No matter how hard I try to remember, everything is blurry. I close my eyes, and what I see inside is a series of incoherent and out-of-order images. I'll never drink again.
- "Miss Harris?" They took me out of my reverie.
- I looked ahead, and there was one of the men who was going to pick up Kate and me from the apartment.
- "I need you to repeat to me what happened last night. Avoid omitting details, please"
- "Detective Clark?" I asked so as not to make a mistake when addressing the subject.
- He nods and holds up the photos when he notices my shudder.
- "Good. Ailen and I arrived at the mansion at 7:30 p.m. I was hoping to see Ethan at that meeting because we were dating, and we hadn't seen each other for several days. I didn't find it when I arrived. And I stayed with Ailen. I don't know what time, but one of my friends, whose name is José, came and told me things." I stop when I bitterly remember what José told me that he heard.
- "Continue, miss," the detective asks me when he notices that he took too long to speak.
- I swallowed and shook my head to stop myself from crying.
- "Jose told me: Ethan is fucking a woman in one of the rooms, and I heard him say that you were stupid and that you were of no use to him other than as an ornament because, as a woman, you are disgusting."
- "What did you do?" Clark asked me with a gesture that seemed morbid to me.
- "I became very anxious and nervous. I didn't understand what was happening, and Ailen, being her sister, advised me to go find out what was happening. I don't remember anything else until this morning."
- "What did Miss Ganash say to you?"
- "Listen, Abby, I know my brother, so I suggest you follow him." Those were Ailen's words.
- In every pause I make, the detective takes note of every word I say and observes my body language, but I don't think I'm saying anything with my body other than the confusion and sadness about how an impromptu party ended in this.
- "Miss, I need you to make an effort. Try to remember what happened next," Detective Clark asks me.
- I close my eyes and breathe deeply to try to calm down and remember.
- "He who laughs last laughs best."
- "You're beautiful, baby..."
- "Your gray eyes are beautiful."
- "I want you to do it. I'm so drunk, I'm sure it won't hurt!"
- "You're so tight. It feels delicious."
- "Do you like it? Because I love being inside you."
- "Your boyfriend is stupid, and so am I, but I admit that I love you, and I wouldn't even let you go."
- "Gray-eyed stallion, I love you, but I can't take it anymore."
- SHIT!!!
- How do I remember this in a situation like this?!
- I sigh and try to calm myself. I'm not telling the detective this! I take a sip of tea and try to calm myself by thinking about flowers and ponies. But the beautiful gray eyes and that series of phrases shouted between me and a stranger did not leave my mind. What the hell did I do last night?
- "I don't know if it's important..."
- “Everything you and those involved did yesterday is very important,” Detective Clark whispered to me in a penetrating voice.
- "I don't know if it happened or if it was a dream, but last night during the party, I think I had sexual relations with someone at the party. I was with one of the guests at that party for almost the entire evening." I murmured, embarrassed, and probably blushing because I felt my cheeks burn.
- Detective Clark is not surprised to hear me say this. After taking my order, he asks me to wait a moment and leaves the room.
- "Miss Harris, you claim that during the evening you had a sexual encounter with a guest at the party, but she also says she does not clearly remember what happened. We will take her to a hospital to undergo the required toxicological tests and a vaginal examination to attach to the file since her alibi is not yet very solid."
- "Vaginal exam? Toxicological tests?" I asked, increasingly scared.
- As I leave the room, I see the Ganash family gathered in front of some agents' desks. Mrs. Diana was terrible. She couldn't stop crying; Mr. Damon just looked ahead stoically and held his wife's shoulder, and Ailen cried silently, holding her mother's hand.
- "Ailen?"
- "Don't come near me! Get away from me... Murderer!" She yells at me furiously.
- "Ailen, I don't understand... I..."
- "José said he heard you say that if what Ethan said was true, you would kill him... I didn't think you were capable!"
- "But I don't remember what happened yesterday."
- "You don't need it, you damn murderer!" I am going to take charge of doing justice to my brother, I swear to you.
- "Ailen... please listen to me." I begged my friend.
- "The evidence points against you. So whatever they do now will be to give justice to your boyfriend, my brother. Murderess!"
- "You!" She screams in the voice of a hysterical woman.
- I looked up and saw a very pretty girl, with black hair cut like a mane. Your eyes are swollen; she's been crying. I remember seeing that girl.
- "You, damn, you killed Ethan!"
- What? I don't understand what's happening here. I'm disconcerted
- "MURDERER... YOU COULD NOT STAND THAT ETHAN FELL IN LOVE WITH ME AND OUT OF YOU KILLED HIM!" The girl screams, crying hysterically, leaving me frozen.
- "No... I... I didn't." I could no longer hold back my tears, and I let them fall like waterfalls.
- "OF COURSE YOU DID! I HEARD YOU... YOU SAID YOU WOULD KILL HIM! YOU DID IT, DAMN KILLER!" The girl tries to lunge at me to hit me, but the police don't allow her.
- "That? I did not go. Maybe I don't remember what happened, but I'm sure I'm not a murderer."
- "Now I understand everything... I loved you like a sister. I know Ethan was a womanizer, and I warned you... but you had no right to take his life!" Ailen says, crying, "Murderer! Damn, murderer!" Each accusation is like a dagger that pierced my lungs.
- "I didn't do it!" I shouted.
- Detective Clark comes out to catch up with me and tells Ailen to stay calm.
- After that, he walks me to the door, and as I leave the police building, I see an Audi R8 arrive and two guys get out of it. One is tall, blonde, muscular, and blue-eyed. The other guy is a little shorter, also muscular, and has messy copper hair. He is dressed in black jeans, a white linen shirt, and a casual black jacket. His face is beautiful; he has beautiful gray eyes.
- I walk from one side to the other after returning from the garden, and in front of me is a boy with gray eyes and messy copper hair with a bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey.
- "There are no clean glasses anymore, and I'm kind of stupid when it comes to washing them, but a sip of whiskey will relax you," he tells me, offering me the bottle.
- I take the bottle without taking my eyes off him, take a sip, and shudder with the burning of the liquid running down my throat. The alcohol calms me down and, after taking a sigh, I smile and give him the bottle back.
- "Thank you. My name is Abby."
- "They do not deserve it. My name is Eduard."
- Is he? He's the guy from last night.
- "Abby!" he calls me surprised.
- "Eduard?" He approached me immediately.
- I see Clark move away from me to give me space and the guy with gray eyes takes my hand.
- When our skin comes into contact, I feel like I shudder, and he feels the same because he loosens his grip.
- "What's happening, where are they taking you?" he asks me, worried.
- "I don't know... they think I killed Ethan... I wasn't..." I murmur, trying to calm down, but I'm terrified.
- "I believe you, baby," he whispers to me and holds my hand tightly. "Be calm. I'll go after you in the car and see what I can do"
- Clark approaches me and hurries me to walk to go to the hospital. She helps me into the car through the back door and I feel overwhelmed by everything that has happened.
- I turned back a little, saw the seat and saw Eduard running into his car and driving away. He's already coming after me.
- "Do you know him?" Detective Clark asks me, looking in the mirror and continuing to drive.
- "Yes... I mean, no... he's the boy I spent the night with," I said, embarrassed.
- The detective stops suddenly.
- "Do you know who that guy is?"
- "His name is Eduard."
- "It's Eduard Fuller, the most sought-after bachelor of the moment and the second-richest man in the country."
- "I..."
- "Miss, I think it is very important to prove that you were with that guy. It's crucial. Although they will have to verify the time that you were intimate with the gentleman and the time that Mr. Ethan Ganash died"
- How will I know the time that I was with Eduard?
- "What does it have to do with this?"
- "If you spent the night with that man, you are probably innocent..."
- "Likely? I didn't kill him. I'm sure"
- "We'll see, miss..."
