Chapter 10 Reassurance
- Not understanding what she meant, Xia Mo looked at her with a raised brow.
- “This is your fifth day of ovulation. From today onward, Mister and I will move back to the old house. You will stay here by yourself. You’ll feel more at ease that way.”
- “You’re leaving this big place to myself?” Xia Mo asked incredulously but then sheepishly continued, “Can you leave someone here to accompany me? I’m... I’m a bit scared.”
- Lu Wanru reassuringly chuckled, “I’ll leave a few people here to tend to you. They’ll cook for you, clean your room, clean this house, go on shopping errands, etc. I’ll arrange everything for you.”
- “Thank you, Madam.” Xia Mo returned her a warm smile.
- She understood Madam’s meaning. Her meaning was that tonight would be the last time that she and that man would do that thing. From tomorrow on, she would be the only one in this house. She would never have to see him again. Awesome!
- Lu Wanru looked at her sincere smile, felt somewhat relieved, and turned to leave the room.
- She ordered the kitchen staff to make Xia Mo silkie chicken soup with goji berries and then instructed another person to buy some casual clothes, sleepwear, and a couple of jackets according to the girl’s size.
- Just in case she wanted to wander the outer grounds of the house.
- Xia Mo had no idea that Lu Wanru was currently helping her pave the way for postpartum life.
- She only knew that she was giddy with joy. She no longer had to look at that austere man and could sleep peacefully in bed by herself until daybreak.
- Her exuberance had lasted until the evening when Ling Yichen walked in. The twinkle in the corners of her eyes was difficult to hide.
- Ling Yichen peered at her a few times. Shortly after his discovery, her smile had already disappeared.
- He knitted his brows. Am I that detestable?
- “You... You’ve returned?” Xia Mo intentionally asked him as she organized her desk and then warily stood up. “I’ll... I’ll go shower first.”
- Ling Yichen had looked hard at her until she disappeared behind the bathroom door. He then picked up a book from her desk and skimmed it. English.
- She is preparing for college?
- Ling Yichen smirked.
- With a million in hand, she still wants to go to school?
- Xia Mo didn’t dawdle in the shower for too long today. She swiftly washed her body and walked out.
- With two nights of experience in her pocket, she had realized that it was better to follow his will than go against it. She would suffer less.
- Today was the final night anyway. She just had to brave through it, and the ordeal would be over.
- At the same time, it was because of her submissiveness that Ling Yichen found the addictive act all the more pleasurable.
- He had never imagined that a woman’s body could be so soft and supple. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even know the the definition of tired when it came to this. More so, he wanted to die in that warmth of hers.
- Not knowing how much time had passed, the two of them finally fell into a deep sleep.
- The next morning arrived. Ling Yichen woke up and gazed at the woman sleeping in his arms for the first time. With a slight furrow of the brows, he roughly withdrew his shoulder and arm from underneath her neck.
- The woman knitted her brows, pouted her cherry lips, childishly tucked her head under the quilt, and muttered, “Mama... Just let me sleep for longer, okay?”
- Ling Yichen turned speechless. He tugged her quilt lower to reveal her petite face and lightly pinched her on the cheek which still had some baby fat on it. He then watched the woman draw her brows more tightly and flutter her lashes. In a moment of panic, Ling Yichen jumped out of bed and dashed for the bathroom.
- When he came out, he eyed the woman who was still sleeping like a piglet and proceeded to head downstairs.
- Sitting in the living room, Lu Wanru greeted him, “I’ll pack our things later and then return to the old house. You can go over there by nightfall.”
- “Yeah.” Ling Yichen nodded. Without eating breakfast, he left.
- Lu Wanru didn’t call for him either.
- It had all begun a few years ago. They were now a loveless couple bounded by courtesy and separated by an ice wall.
- Mrs. Wu inwardly lamented their situation. She walked up to Lu Wanru, wanting to cheer her up but did not know where to begin.
- “There’s no need to pack all of Mister’s belongings. Leave some of them here.” Lu Wanru didn’t know how effective the medicine that Xia Mo had consumed was, but since Bowen had boasted about how godly it was, it should have probably worked somewhat?
- She didn’t want to interfere with Ling Yichen contacting Xia Mo either. After all, she did give the woman upstairs a million.
- Not to mention, she would rather Ling Yichen fall for Xia Mo than Lu Wanqiu.
- Lu Wanru had numerous methods of dealing with Xia Mo, but Lu Wanqiu was not so easy.
- When noon came, Xia Mo received news that Madam had already left. She then walked out of her room for the first time and crept downstairs.
- “Hello, Miss.” A middle-aged woman who was sweeping the first floor noticed Xia Mo and hastily greeted her, “I am Mrs. Feng. If you have any needs, just tell me.”
- “I’m fine,” replied Xia Mo while running a hand through her hair, “I just want to take a walk.”
- “Madam has already relayed that to us. She has prepared you with some clothes. If you wish to go out, then please dress warmly to avoid getting sick.”
- Mrs. Feng’s subservient attitude made Xia Mo uncomfortable. She smiled at her and replied, “You don’t have to call me Miss. Just call me Mo Mo. That’s what everyone in my family does.”
- “It’s better that I call you Miss.” Mrs. Feng’s response was mild-mannered, but she did not comply.
- Not knowing how to persuade her, Xia Mo let her be.
- Donning a thick cotton sweater with a hat and gloves secured, she followed a young maid outside and revolved around the house for a stroll. Afterward, she ate dinner, showered, and went to bed early.
- This time, she slept soundly throughout the night until late morning.
- She had sat up, lazily stretched, and remained in bed for a while before she got dressed.
- Three days of living like this had passed by. Along with Mrs. Wu, Lu Wanru came over to pick up Xia Mo for a checkup.
- Xia Mo wore the clothes that Lu Wanru had prepared for her: silver-colored, flat heel, short boots, a black-colored cotton velvet sports outfit, and a white, wool sweater on the inside.
- She appeared refreshing and charming.
- Although she didn’t recognize the brands, the clothes and shoes felt very comfortable. She knew that they must be expensive.
- Her heart sank. She hoped that she was pregnant. That way, she could gain her freedom after those ten months.
- At the same time, she was also terrified of being pregnant. She was only eighteen years old and still a high school student. How could she possibly be pregnant and give birth?
- Nevertheless, she recalled those five nights of humiliation and inwardly prayed for a successful pregnancy. If not, wouldn’t it mean that she would have to do it with that man again?
- Nervousness overcame her as she followed the two women and had her checkup performed.
- Following that, she sat beside the maid, Xiao Cui, in an empty corridor while Mrs. Wu escorted Madam into the doctor’s office.
- Ten or so minutes later, Madam and Mrs. Wu walked out of the office with faces full of jubilee and rushed over to Xia Mo.
- “Let’s go. I’ll treat you to a nice meal.” Exhilarated, Lu Wanru grabbed Xia Mo’s hand and pulled her up. “I’ll also buy other stuff for you.”
- “No need, Madam. I don’t lack anything,” Xia Mo quickly rejected her, “You have bought me many things already. I don’t need anything else.”
- “Then I’ll invite you to a meal. Don’t turn me down.” Lu Wanru’s attitude remained cordial. Afraid of bumping into familiar people and unable to reject her proposal, Xia Mo could only nod in acquiescence.
- On the way there, Xia Mo could not calm down at all. She had never thought that she would actually be pregnant!
- Even more unexpectedly, this celebratory meal...
