- I can’t tell what woke me first—the buzz of my phone on the table or the comforting smell of coffee that permeated the air. I opened my eyes and buried my head in the pillow before taking another four seconds to tell my body it was time to rise—and maybe shine.
- “Good morning,” Marcus said and I splintered one eye open to see Marcus. He was standing beside the bed with a tray. I could already perceive the smell of coffee so I could tell he brought me breakfast.
