• I tell him to look at my feet and what I'm doing. I skate slowly for him so he can see carefully. I give him tips to lean to the side that he's skating on so it's easier. Also he should use his arms to gain leverage. He struggles at first but eventually gets the hang of it. He's a fast learner.
• "Have you always hated skating?" I ask as we skate together. We're still absentmindedly holding hands and I can't bring myself to care.
• "Yeah" He tells me "I think I've only ever done it once. This rink is new. It wasn't here last year"
