Chapter 7

  • The Carrington Manor
  • Elianna dressed Zack in a very handsome little suit. This suit, matching the one she was wearing, was in the same khaki color with white, making the little guy look as beautiful as a young gentleman.
  • She suddenly noticed something and gestured with her hand above Zack's head, "Hey, have you grown taller?"
  • It felt like, just overnight, he had gained another inch.
  • Zack shook his head and remained silent.
  • Elianna asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"
  • She felt that Owen spoke much less, the previous Owen, but his little mouth never stopped chattering, like a walking "One Hundred Thousand Whys", he would always ask many strange and curious questions every day.
  • "Mummy, why aren't there any black flowers in the world?"
  • "Mummy, why didn't the sun and the moon stay together?"
  • "Mummy, why does it rain?"
  • "..."
  • Compared to before, the little one in front of me was quiet, completely different from before.
  • Zack said, "My throat's been sore."
  • He had just had a fever recently, so his body hadn't fully recovered yet.
  • Elianna exclaimed, "Ah, it must have been too much soda."
  • She squatted down and straightened Zack's collar, saying, "Mommy's going to visit an uncle today. He’s Mommy's senior. When you meet him, you need to say hello properly. Understood?"
  • Three days ago, she had received a call from her senior, who wanted to discuss something with her.
  • Since he rarely asked for her help, Elianna agreed without hesitation.
  • Zack tilted his little head and said, "What should I call him?"
  • Uncle Wellington, Elianna said.
  • Zack nodded obediently.
  • Uncle Wellington, hmm, he got it.
  • Elianna led him out of the gate, and the driver had already parked the car at the entrance. The mother and son got into the car.
  • The car's front wheels departed, and a taxi approached the Carrington Manor.
  • After the car stopped at the entrance, the driver was left in awe by the majestic sight before him—the mansion of the Carrington family, the wealthiest in Bryston. He had no idea that the young boy he had been driving was, in fact, the heir to this illustrious family.
  • Owen opened the car door, swiftly jumped out of the car, and ran towards the gate, shouting, "Edwin! Edwin!"
  • Edwin hurriedly rushed to the door, and when he saw Owen, he couldn't believe his eyes and rubbed them.
  • Just now, Elianna personally escorted her son to the door. He had only just left, so why did the young master come back again?
  • And...
  • The clothes on him seemed different from what he wore when he went out!
  • Edwin, with a bewildered expression on his face, quickly opened the door.
  • Owen immediately threw himself into his arms: "Edwin! There's a bad guy chasing me!"
  • Edwin picked him up and looked towards a nearby place, only to see a taxi driver. He couldn't help but laugh and cry, "No one's chasing you. How did you get back?"
  • Owen confidently said, "I took a taxi! Mommy taught me that when I get lost, I should find a taxi to take me home! Oh! And I haven't paid the fare yet!"
  • Edwin smiled knowingly, scooping the child up in his arms. He walked over to the taxi, settled the bill without giving it much thought, and carried Owen back into the house.
  • Meanwhile,
  • 30 Minutes Later
  • The car stopped at the entrance to Willow Haven.
  • After Professor Wellington retired, he bought a lakeside cottage here. It was a classical courtyard with a beautiful artificial pond. In his free time, Professor Wellington would spent his leisure time tending to the flowers and watching the birds.
  • As Elianna got out of the car, she noticed a vehicle parked right in front of her. She glanced at the license plate and immediately recognized it as Joseph’s.
  • She tensed up for a moment.
  • Why was he here?
  • Elianna's mind was spinning with thoughts as she turned around and lifted Zack onto the car. "Be a good boy and wait for Mommy here, okay?"
  • Zack nodded and followed her gaze, also seeing the car, and at the same time recognizing it as his father's vehicle!
  • How did Dad's car get here?
  • After Elianna instructed the driver to take good care of her son, she turned around and entered the gate.
  • The driver, noticing Zack sitting quietly in the back seat, felt an urge to light a cigarette. He grabbed his cigarette case and lighter, stepped out of the car, and lit up.
  • Zack furrowed his brows slightly, gently opened the car door, and walked towards the vehicle.
  • Halfway there, he stopped. Glancing back, he felt a pang of reluctance.
  • He really liked this beautiful aunt. Since he was young, he hadn’t had a mother, but when she held him in her arms, it felt so warm and comforting. It made him wish time could stand still.
  • But he had to go back!
  • If his father couldn’t find him, he'd cause a stir and search every corner of Bryston.
  • By then, the beautiful aunt would definitely have been mistaken for a human trafficker and arrested!
  • With this in mind, Zack pursed his lips in disappointment and turned around, reluctantly running towards Joseph's vehicle.
  • At this moment,
  • Joseph's chauffeur, who was dozing off in the car, suddenly heard someone tapping on the window.
  • He jolted awake and sat up, only to see Zack tiptoeing outside the car window, saying, "Edward?"
  • The driver was greatly shocked and exclaimed, "Young master?"
  • He quickly got off the car, picked up the little guy in his arms, looked around, and had no idea where he had emerged from: "Why... did you sneak out again? If Mr. Kensington finds out, he’ll be very upset!"
  • He even suspected that when he left, this guy might have followed him in the trunk.
  • It was far too risky.
  • As soon as Zack thought of Joseph's cold face, his stylish eyebrows furrowed, and he felt a bit scared.
  • He said, "Take me back first."
  • The driver wiped his sweat and nodded, "Okay, young master."
  • ***
  • Elianna walked up to the door and pressed the doorbell.
  • Soon, someone came to the door.
  • The person who came to open the door was the nanny responsible for taking care of Professor Wellington's daily life. As soon as she saw Elianna, she immediately recognized her and said, "Ms. Carrington, isn’t it?"
  • Elianna smiled and asked meaningfully, "Is Senior Brother still entertaining important guests today?"
  • The nanny smiled and said, "Yes, a high-profile guest from Sylphora came to seek treatment from Professor Wellington!"
  • As Elianna stepped inside, her thoughts turned to the mystery of Joseph’s visit. She quickly realized that he was here for Livia.
  • Livia had suffered from heart issues, specifically moderate heart failure. Elianna vaguely remembered that the condition had worsened over the years.
  • At one point, Joseph had even considered heart transplantation, but finding a suitable donor was almost impossible.
  • According to Livia's requirements, the donor had to match Livia's blood type, pass lymphatic testing, be free of malignant tumors, and have no major medical history. Moreover, the donor's age and physical characteristics had to align closely with hers. They also needed to be located nearby, and the transplant had to happen within an hour.
  • And the only one who met the criteria at that time—was her.
  • If she had died in that fire, her heart would have been the only hope for Livia’s survival.
  • Elianna had long suspected someone orchestrated the kidnapping. She had investigated, but the masterminds had either fled abroad or taken their own lives in fear of being caught.
  • The thought of it all sent a chill down her spine.
