Chapter 2 Divorce

  • Jean adjusted her clothes in the room, her movements mechanical and detached. Her eyes, swollen from hours of weeping, reflected the profound sadness she felt. She looked up at her father's gray photo on the wall, his stern, unyielding gaze a stark reminder of the man she had lost. The weight of Edgar's cruel words seemed to press down on her like a physical force.
  • "I married you to seek revenge against your disgusting father. Now that he is dead, and you're the only one left, it is your turn to pay for his crimes."
  • The memory of Edgar's harsh declaration was like a dagger twisting in her heart. Jean sank to the floor, her strength drained, and the tears continued to flow uncontrollably. She buried her face in her hands, sobbing softly. "Dad, I've failed you…" she murmured between sobs, her voice breaking with grief.
  • That day, the news of the Eyer family's overnight downfall became the headline of various major newspapers. The shocking revelation of their abrupt fall from grace was a sensation, gripping public attention. The following morning, a piece of entertainment news took the Internet by storm, adding to the chaos surrounding Jean’s life.
  • As Jean was still deep in mourning, trying to come to terms with her father's death, an unexpected disturbance shook her from her despair. A group of people stormed into her countryside home, moving her furniture out of the house with ruthless efficiency. The noise of shuffling items and clattering furniture was deafening.
  • Jean, still in her grief-stricken haze, stumbled downstairs to investigate the commotion. Her housekeeper, Brigid Lang, rushed to her side, her face etched with worry and frustration. "Madam! A group of people suddenly barged in and started moving things from the house. I can't stop them!" Brigid's voice trembled with panic.
  • Jean’s heart raced as she tried to process what was happening. She stopped one of the movers, a burly man struggling with a large antique porcelain vase from the foyer. Her eyes flashed with determination despite her anguish. "What are you doing? I'll call the police to arrest you for trespassing!" Her voice was hoarse but resolute.
  • The man paused, clearly taken aback by her accusation. "Trespassing? Doesn't this house belong to Mr. Royden? We are acting under his instruction to move everything in the house. I apologize if we've disturbed you."
  • Jean was stunned and suddenly remembered something. Although my father purchased this house for me as my marital home, I made Edgar the sole owner of this house as a sign of my trust in him.
  • What is Edgar up to now?
  • In a daze, Jean fumbled for her phone, dialing Edgar's number urgently. Her fingers shook as she tried to reach him, but the phone vibrated in her hand. In her haste, she accidentally pressed on a notification, which opened a news article that made her heart stop.
  • Edgar Royden, president of Royden Group, announced through an interview that he would be marrying Ms. Gigi Reece, a rookie actress. It is reported that Mr. Royden has divorced Ms. Jean Eyer.
  • Jean gripped her phone tightly. Divorce? Why am I not aware that I have divorced?
  • "Madam, what… What should we do?" Brigid panicked as things got out of hand.
  • Mr. Royden refuses to show Madam even a little mercy. She is his wife, after all. Why does he have to be so cruel?
  • Jean, now filled with a sense of urgency, turned to Brigid with a steely resolve. "Call the police! Call the police now!" She commanded, her voice firm despite the tears streaming down her face. It was the only way she could think of to confront Edgar and demand answers.
