Chapter 11 Proposals

  • "Ah! You... you know the complete set of the Heavenly Meridian Needling Technique?!"
  • Tyrell's astonishment knew no bounds.
  • He had struggled to master only the first six parts, with the last three remaining elusive despite his relentless pursuit. It had been a source of constant frustration for him.
  • Never did he imagine that the young man before him possessed the entire set.
  • Chase smiled and confirmed, "Indeed, I am well acquainted with the Heavenly Meridian Needling Technique. I considered using it to aid Old Mr. Baylor but found it too time-consuming, requiring three separate acupuncture sessions. Hence, I chose moxibustion therapy instead."
  • At this revelation, Tyrell bowed deeply to Chase, beseeching, "Dr. Gatzby, please accept me as your disciple and impart to me the final three needles of the Heavenly Meridian Needling Technique."
  • The utterance left everyone present dumbfounded.
  • Who was Tyrell?
  • He was none other than the esteemed Meridian Maven, a luminary in the Gemville medical community.
  • And yet, here he was, expressing a desire to apprentice himself to a young man barely in his twenties.
  • If word of this spread, who would believe it?
  • After a moment of consideration, Chase responded, "I'm willing to teach you the Heavenly Meridian Needling Technique, but as for accepting you as a disciple, I must consult my mentor first."
  • "Dr. Gatzby, you have my utmost respect!" Tyrell bowed once more deeply.
  • He had not anticipated Chase's willingness to share the technique before officially taking him as a disciple.
  • Such generosity and openness earned Chase his profound admiration.
  • Even if Chase declined to accept him as a disciple, Tyrell had resolved to regard him as his mentor.
  • Witnessing Tyrell's successful request for the Heavenly Meridian Needling Technique, Sam felt compelled to follow suit.
  • Approaching Chase, he too bowed and entreated, "Divine Dr. Gatzby, please consider taking me as your disciple as well."
  • Chase found himself somewhat overwhelmed by these two esteemed gentlemen.
  • The shock reverberated among all present.
  • This was the national doctor renowned for treating leaders, expressing a desire to become Chase's disciple.
  • Their actions had shattered the preconceptions of everyone in the room, leaving their worldviews utterly overturned.
  • Chase assured them that he would share the Heavenly Meridian Needling Technique and the formula for the Hematogenic Tablet next time, but any decisions regarding taking on disciples would have to be discussed with Elm first.
  • At that moment, a middle-aged man answered a phone call and approached Scott, informing him of his imminent departure. "Scott, I have some matters to attend to, so I won't stay long. Please convey my regards to Old Mr. Baylor," he said.
  • "We're all family here; no need for formality, Mayor Smith," Scott replied warmly.
  • After exchanging pleasantries with the others, Mayor Smith shook hands with Chase, expressing his gratitude once more. "Divine Dr. Gatzby, thank you once again for curing my ex-boss. Please do visit my house for a chat when you have the time," he invited cordially.
  • "Certainly," Chase responded politely.
  • Once Mayor Smith had left, Scott patted Chase on the shoulder, remarking, "That's Mayor Alex Smith, the top leader in Gemville. He was a student of my father's, and it's evident he holds you in high regard."
  • Chase smiled but offered no further comment.
  • Chase remained unperturbed by Mayor Smith's status.
  • Having encountered individuals of even higher rank in the past, their admiration had failed to sway him, let alone that of a mere mayor.
  • "Dad! Why did you come out?"
  • At that moment, Hannah pushed Old Mr. Baylor into the room, prompting Scott to greet them hurriedly.
  • Old Mr. Baylor, with a smile, looked up and addressed Chase, "Divine Dr. Gatzby, it was Dr. Van Arkel who recommended you, correct?"
  • Chase nodded, acknowledging Elm's surname.
  • "Excellent! Truly, heroes emerge from the young!" Old Mr. Baylor exclaimed, visibly impressed.
  • As mealtime approached, the Baylor family warmly invited Chase to join them at the dining table.
  • Seated across from Old Mr. Baylor, Chase was met with a thoughtful gaze. "Divine Dr. Gatzby, you've saved my life, and I'm at a loss for how to express my gratitude," Old Mr. Baylor confessed sincerely.
  • "It was a minor effort; no need to fret about it," Chase responded graciously.
  • After a moment of contemplation, Old Mr. Baylor turned to Hannah and inquired, "Divine Dr. Gatzby, what are your thoughts on my granddaughter?"
  • Hannah, taken aback, interjected sharply, "Grandpa! What are you suggesting?"
  • Undeterred, Old Mr. Baylor persisted, "If you're still unattached, I would like to propose a union between you and my granddaughter. What say you, Divine Dr. Gatzby?"
  • "Grandpa!" Hannah was incensed, her frustration evident as she slammed her cutlery on the table.
  • Chase's response only fueled her anger.
  • Dismissing her with a wave of his hand, he stated plainly, "I'm not interested."
  • "You!" Hannah seethed, her gaze fixed on Chase.
  • Hannah Baylor, accustomed to the attention of numerous suitors, found herself stunned by her grandfather's suggestion of a union with Chase. She expected him to be elated and appreciative, but to her astonishment, Chase rejected her outright!
  • The prospect of this rejection becoming public left her grappling with acute embarrassment. Where could she, Hannah Baylor, possibly conceal her humiliation if word of it spread?
  • Despite Chase's earlier heroism, Hannah's aversion towards him only deepened.
  • A hint of disappointment flickered across Old Mr. Baylor's face.
  • After a momentary pause, he turned to Scott with a suggestion, "Scott, don't you own an investment company? Transfer that company to Dr. Gatzby."
  • Addressing Chase directly, he continued, "Divine Dr. Gatzby, since you're not interested in my granddaughter, consider this company as a token of my gratitude."
  • Chase declined with a smile and shook his head. "While I appreciate the offer, I wouldn't know the first thing about running a company."
  • The truth was Chase was fully committed to wooing his wife and had no bandwidth for additional responsibilities.
  • Then, Scott intervened, proposing an alternative. "Divine Dr. Gatzby, how about this? You can have 90% of the company shares, and we'll retain the remaining 10%. We'll handle the day-to-day management, so you needn't worry. What do you think?"
  • Chase nodded in agreement this time, no longer refusing the offer.
  • Old Mr. Baylor's satisfaction was evident.
  • His aim was clear: to forge a strong connection with Chase by any means necessary.
  • Not only was Chase a skilled physician, but he also boasted a reclusive mentor.
  • In the future, he would undoubtedly prove to be a valuable ally to the Baylor family.
  • Regrettably, since Chase showed no interest in pursuing a relationship with his granddaughter, their connection could only be forged through mutual interests.
  • After dinner, Scott gathered information from Chase to facilitate the share transfer.
  • "Divine Dr. Gatzby, I'll arrange to transfer 90% of Blackhaven Ventures' shares to you in the coming days. I'll keep you informed once it's done," Scott informed him.
  • Blackhaven Ventures?
  • Chase's interest was piqued at the mention of Blackhaven Ventures.
  • Wasn't this the shareholder of Sydney's company? He recalled Sara mentioning it before.
  • In a moment of contemplation, Scott leaned in towards Chase, smiled awkwardly, and inquired softly, "Hey, Divine Dr. Gatzby, earlier you mentioned my symptoms. Do you have a remedy?"
  • Chase smiled warmly as he quickly jotted down a prescription on a piece of paper. He handed it to Scott with a reassuring tone, "Take this daily, and you should see improvement within a week."
  • Scott accepted the prescription gratefully.
  • In that instant, Chase's attention was drawn to a pair of pleading eyes fixed upon him.
  • It was Swift, one of Hannah's subordinates, silently seeking his help.
  • With a compassionate gesture, Chase shook his head slightly and swiftly penned another prescription. Handing it to Swift, he offered her a reassuring smile.
  • Accepting the prescription with a bashful smile, Swift expressed her gratitude, "Thank you, Divine Dr. Gatzby."
  • Then, mustering courage, she inquired, "And what about... our team leader?"
  • Glancing at Hannah, who appeared to have her back turned but was covertly observing their interaction, Chase playfully raised his voice and teased, "Unfortunately, her condition is incurable for now."
  • With a playful tone, he teased, "Her condition is incurable for now."
  • "What! Is it that serious?" Swift was taken aback, while nearby, Hannah tensed up upon hearing this.
