Chapter 2 Why Didn't You Save Her?

  • The doctors in the clandestine hospital were engrossed in their tasks, blinded by the allure of profit. It wasn't until the door was violently kicked open that they noticed Marcus charging in, his body smeared with rust from the iron door.
  • "Who the hell are you?" one of the doctors demanded, spinning around to face the intruder.
  • Without hesitation, Marcus delivered a swift slap across the doctor's face.
  • "Why didn't you save her?" he thundered, his voice echoing through the corridors.
  • Now nursing his stinging cheek, the doctor squinted at Marcus and recognised him. "Aren't you the fiancé of Clara, the heir of the Eternity Group?"
  • He sneered, "So, this child is yours? No wonder she's been neglected and treated like a stray."
  • Marcus's face contorted with rage. He seized the doctor by his collar, lifting him effortlessly.
  • Bang!
  • With a forceful crash, he hurled the man to the floor, not wasting any breath on explanations.
  • His priority was to save his daughter Lily, who was lying in critical condition.
  • These men deserved no mercy.
  • Marcus punched open another door and barked at Maxwell, "Seal off this place! I need to save my daughter! And these men must pay!"
  • Seeing Lily's blood-soaked body, Maxwell's heart ached. His fists clenched in fury.
  • "Understood," he responded through gritted teeth.
  • Marcus hurried to Lily, cradling her gently. "Don't be scared, Daddy's here. I'll save you," he reassured her, though his hands trembled as he retrieved a box of silver needles.
  • Lily had seventeen broken bones, numerous glass shards embedded in her skin, and signs of severe beating.
  • In Wintermere, Marcus was renowned as Zenith Crawley, a miraculous doctor who could handle any crisis.
  • But now, faced with his own daughter's suffering, fear gripped him.
  • He was terrified of making a mistake—of failing to save her.
  • As he began the delicate procedure, dark clouds seemed to loom ominously. Even the King of Hell would not dare to interfere with Marcus's mission to save his daughter.
  • Five years ago, Marcus had been Clara's fiancé. Misled by guilt, he had left his most precious prescription in Netherwood, thinking he had wronged Clara.
  • But Clara had deceived him, pretending to be pregnant and sending him away. At the same time, she tried to eliminate Sadie, the actual victim.
  • Half an hour later, Marcus finally finished administering the treatment. He wiped the sweat from his brow and gently stroked Lily's forehead.
  • True to her resilient spirit, she hadn't uttered a single cry of pain. Slowly, Lily opened her eyes. Tears streamed down her face as she recognised her father.
  • "Daddy, is it really you?" she asked weakly.
  • Marcus nodded fervently. "Yes, it's Daddy. I'm here now. I'll protect you and Mommy. I promise."
  • His eyes fell on Lily's tightly clenched hand.
  • When she opened her hand, inside was a simple sketch. It depicted three figures: Daddy, Mommy, and Lily.
  • A seemingly happy family. But the father's face was blank.
  • Marcus choked up. "Did you learn this at kindergarten?" he asked.
  • Lily shook her head. "Mommy taught me."
  • "Why doesn't Daddy have a face?" Marcus inquired, his voice trembling.
  • "Because I've never seen Daddy, and Mommy never told me what he looks like," Lily replied, her voice tinged with sorrow.
  • Marcus's heart felt like it was being torn apart. Perhaps Sadie didn't know what he looked like either.
  • Just then, screams echoed through the hospital. Marcus held Lily's hand and said, "Daddy's here now. You've seen Daddy. When you get better, you can draw my face, okay?"
  • Lily wanted to agree but instead vomited a mouthful of dirt. Her stomach was filled with garbage because she was pushed off a crane.
  • Marcus's rage boiled over. He stormed out of the hospital, bloodshot eyes glaring at the doctors. "Who did this?!" he demanded.
  • One of the doctors braved himself and shouted back, "It was Mr. Devon who sent us! Your daughter was pushed off the crane by him! Here in Netherwood, Mr. Devon is untouchable. If he wants your daughter dead, she's dead!"
  • Marcus's grip tightened around the doctor's neck. His vision blurred with fury, the world around him turning into a dark abyss.
  • If he had arrived a moment later, his daughter would have been lost forever, and these men showed no remorse.
  • "I'll kill you!" Marcus roared, his voice filled with unbridled hatred. Blood dripped from his mouth and eyes. Never before had he felt such loathing.
  • His roar shook the Blade of Wintermere and the entire Mandoria. He is the top warrior of the Blade, but her daughter has been mercilessly tormented.
  • Outside, the Blade of Wintermere warriors arrived, their footsteps like thunder under the garbage mountain, ready to stand by Marcus's side.
