Chapter 9 Broke the Promise
- Ling Yan staggered out of the hospital and wandered aimlessly on the street.
- The sun was so dazzling that she could barely open her eyes.
- Passersby walked past her, chuckling, crying, cursing, or chatting. However, she was detached.
- At a crossroad, she stopped at the red signal.
- Then, she was attracted by a shop nearby and walked straight in it.
- There were pink and blue baby clothes, laced cradles and fluffy toys.
- “Are you all right, Miss?” asked a shop assistant with concern.
- Ling Yan was still dressed in hospital gown and slippers, let alone her distressed look. No wonder people found her odd.
- However, Ling Yan remained silent and simply shook her head.
- She was standing in a daze before a painting in which a lovely boy was playing.
- If her child could be born, it must be as cute as this little boy.
- Ling Yan used to visit so many stores with her beloved husband, and they had bought piles of clothes and toys for their baby.
- Looking back at the past, her efforts were all in vain.
- Ling Yan crouched down and burst out crying.
- The young assistant had no idea what to do. She turned around to look for help, and as it happened, she bumped into a tall and good-looking man.
- “Let me handle this,” said Jing Haozhi to the assistant. Then, he quietly stayed with Ling Yan.
- He had followed her all the way there.
- Her crying gradually ceased. Ling Yan looked up and noticed his presence.
- “Doctor Jing?” She was confused.
- Jing Haozhi smiled tenderly. “I'm a doctor. It's my responsibility to look after you.”
- Ling Yan nodded.
- She knew that Jing Haozhi was a kind person, but considering what had happened earlier, she dared not say much in case Qiao Yunmo might get the wrong idea again.
- The phone buzzed and broke the embarrassing silence.
- Jing Haozhi picked up, and after a few words, he gave Ling Yan the phone.
- At the sight of the calling number, Ling Yan was stunned.
- “Hello.” Her voice was husky.
- “What are you doing?” Qiao Yunmo sounded displeased.
- Ling Yan remained silent for a while until Qiao Yunmo shouted, “Are you deaf?”
- Almost deafened by his loud voice, she held the phone a bit farther.
- Her eyes were vacant, from which one could hardly tell her mood.
- “Aren't we even now?”
- Qiao Yunmohad promised that if she gave him the kidney, he would leave her and her father alone.
- “You've taken my kidney, Mr. Qiao. You should keep your promise.”
- “Ling Yan,” he said her name slowly.
- “My promise is on the condition that Runan completely recovers. She just had the surgery, and there is no telling what could go wrong. Come back right now,” he commanded.
- “Shame on you!” Ling Yan couldn't help yelling, “You had given me your word! I'll never go back.”
- “Don't forget that we still have Ling Chengzhou...” At that, he hung up the phone.
- Ling Yan put down the phone, overwhelmed by a sense of desperation.
- In the distance, Qiao Yunmo was looking at Ling Yan and Jing Haozhi from a car, with a complicated look and mixed feelings.
