Chapter 39
- "I want to eat the big cake. William spotted me and allowed me to go outside. I was so happy, I called her sister. When her friends asked who I was, she said..." Sara mulled over it. "She told them I was a servant's daughter."
- "I was disappointed. I was crying when I asked Yen why would my sister treat me that way. He told me that I was an illegitimate daughter, therefore I was just a servant. It really upset me to hear my biological father saying that. I cried for a long time. For the first time, I lost my temper and flung a glass onto the floor." Sara looked up at the starry sky as she mumbled, "Master Bishop, they treated me badly, so I don't want to be good to them anymore. The world is simple. You are a good person. If someone doesn't understand you, it isn't your fault."
- Hank was smiling. This little girl had made so much effort just to comfort him about his strained relationship with Madam Bishop.
