• “What are you thinking?” Stephan asked, breaking the silence that filled the hospital room. Sylvia had been staring blankly at the ceiling since she opened her eyes, her thoughts clearly elsewhere.
• He had called her name more than five times, but each time was met with silence, as if she were a million miles away.
