Chapter 1 Meet Audrey Kathleen
- KYLE'S POV
- I sat by my window side staring out to the sky, ready to feed the loneliness in my house with the sound of my voice, just like the birds knew what was going on in my mind, the sat on the tree branch close to my window and listened attentively.
- I began to sing, I could hear them hum to the tone, whole-heartedly I let it out, I was not just practicing, I was doing what i love the most. For me singing is not a means of entertainment, it's not a job but it's a habit, one I was addicted to, and i almost cannot do without.
- So far it's the only thing that makes me happy, my school life isn't fun because I have no close friends, my home life happens to be even worse because I have no siblings and I just watch my parents fight all day.
- •~The moment I met you for the very first time~•
- •~I remember that I'm out of breath~•
- •~Maybe you've heard it and still remember the day I was upset ~•
- •~I really like it when I hear your voice~•
- •~But I like it better when we walk together~•
- •~Yeah, there was a time, there was a day when I loved you with all my heart~•
- •~You are my first love everytime~•
- •~I'll wait for you untill the spring snow comes~•
- •~I thought I was drunk that night 'cos my heart was really strange and the wind blew~•
- •~That night I was so sad and stumbled~•
- •~You are my first love everytime~•
- •~Sometimes I feel like love is lonely and my life is always hard~•
- ~•I knew it from the day we spent together, that; there was a day I loved you with all my heart...
- "Careless woman! " I heard my Dad yell at my Mom.
- Oh! Not again!
- Despite the fact that I was so engrossed with my music, they succeeded in interrupting me and making me miss a line.
- Whoever heard that song would probably think that I am in love with someone, but I aren't, yet the title of the song - my very first song is 'First love'
- "Bring it on! I'm prepared for you! " My Mom yelled back at him.
- "Arrrgh!" I groaned and stood up, walked to my door and slammed it.
- I know I was still gonna hear their uproar, but at least, It's gonna reduce their noise.

- AUDREY's POV
- "Surprise!!" My Mom exclaimed as she untied the piece of cloth which she used to cover my face - my eyes precisely.
- "Finally" I groaned like the usual teenage girl and tried to get my eyes adjusted to the light "Where are we mommy? " I asked in surprised.
- Staring at the beautiful environment...The sitting room.
- "Mo..mom" I muttered in shock "what...what are we doing here" I queried.
- "Yes baby" She replied smiling. "This is our new home"
- "Mom, don't tell me you used the loan you received from the bank to buy this expensive house? " I asked in a grouse.
- "Come on Audrey, it's the smallest building in Wearous Estate" My mom stated.
- "Wearous Estate? " I exclaimed almost in a scream then I rushed to a window nearby to check through it.
- Afar, I saw a bill board ' WEAROUS' was scribbed on it.
- I don't want to believe that my mom bought a house here in Wearous Estate of all Estates?
- "Mom!, how are we gonna cope? We don't belong to this environment" I whined.
- "How do you mean? What do you mean by we don't belong to this environment?" Mom asked and folded her arms.
- "Everyone here is rich, I mean extremely wealthy" I continued to complain.
- "Audrey, I trained you really well, have you stopped believing that there is nothing impossible?" Mom said obviously fed up of my complaints already.
- "I know Mom, I'm simply saying you should have just bought a small house in a less standard estate, Okay this is the smallest house here right but I'm pretty sure it is expensive. Later or even sooner, the bank managers would start running to you for their money. Think about it mom, how do you intend to pay them? how are we gonna pay them? " I grumbled.
- I don't know what's wrong with mom..
- We've been living a small but comfortable life with her friend, Bridget but she got married a week ago. Now we have no choice rather than to find our own house and live our own life.
- She pleaded for a loan which was reluctantly given to her. I expected her to get one mini-duplex in a less costly area but she bought this small house which I could still classify to as 'Expensive' because of it location. It's an estate for the Rich.
- Wearous - WEAlthy and prospeROUS.
- Ugh!
- "It would take centuries before I'll find someone who is wealthless like me that's even if there is one here" I said.
- "How many times do I have to tell you never to look down on your self?, never to see yourself as a poor girl..? Your father is very rich. Why are you making it seems like it's wrong for us to live among the rich?" Mom asked and I groaned.
- My Mom is single and I cherish her more than anything else in this world.
- How could Dad be so heartless to abandon my mom after putting her in a motherly state? Huh, did I just call him Dad? Never ! I have no father..Such a heartless man is not worthy to be called a father.
- Mom told me it was her fault anyway. She did what teenage girls do.
- Because he was swimming in money, she clinged around him then later fell in love with him but she fell in love with his money first.
- She did everything to make him believe that she loves him to the moon. When she found out that she was pregnant for him, she called his number and told him she had a baby in her womb for him.. He hung up the call, she tried to call him again but his phone was turned off.
- When she tried visiting him, she was told that he and his family already travelled to Italy and they aren't gonna return anytime soon but they never returned.
- That was how I came into existence, a poor rich girl with no father.
- "It's wrong mom, it is"
- "I just broke the first news to you and you are grumbling. What if I say the other one? " Mom said.
- What?
- "And what is it? " I asked with my eye brows wrinkled.
- "Well I registered you at Wearous High School" My mom proclaimed.
- I was shocked by her statement.
- Why Mom?
- "You'll be resuming tomorrow, I've got you the uniforms and everything you would need to look like a student of Wearous school"
- "WHS is meant for wealthy students from wealthy homes" I reminded her just to be sure she knew what she was saying.
- "You are a rich girl remember?" My Mom said and I scoffed, Yeah a poor rich girl.
- She calls me a rich girl because I have a wealthy father who is absolutely anonymous to me.
- "Aren't you the one always telling me to be myself and never to emulate what other people do? " I asked adamantly.
- "Listen Audrey, I know the school is well-popular for being prosperous and filled with wealthy students. Don't make it uneasy for us, if it is about the money...you don't need to worry about it, b'cos I've gotten you an after school Job, it's not too far from Wearous High School"
- "Oh Mom, you are doing so many things without my consent" I sniveled then intentionally fell flat on a couch.- It was... comfortable.
- "I know you don't want it, that's why I did all these things without informing you first" Mom announced.
- "And what if..?" I paused "What if I reject it all, I mean I refuse to go to WHS, I refuse to take a part-time job or even refuse to stay in this house and it's Environment" I said and saw a rising unhappy-and-angry look on her face.
- "You won't want to make me sad right? " Mom said already looking despondent.
- "I love you mom, sincerely I do. I don't want you to spend or go through too much" I briefly explained.
- "But I'm not complaining " she argued.
- "Ok fine! I'll do what you want, I'll act like I'm one of the rich girls from a rich home when I get to the school" I said sarcastically and mom heaved a sigh of relief 'cos the long argument has finally come to an end.
- "Where is the kitchen, I'll go make dinner" I said then stood up.
- Making Mom happy is what I want the most and nothing more.
- ****
- I woke up very early the next day, thanks to the small alarm I met by my bed-side.
- Ready for school...
- My new school, Wearous High School.
- Do I need to introduce myself? Nah, I already did that yesterday.
- I still don't believe I could sleep all alone in this pretty room..
- At Aunt.Bridget's place, my mom and I shared a room.
- I silenced the alarm which won't stop ringing if I don't, then I wore my slippers and staggard to bathroom as if I were drunk.
- **
- The school uniform was Wow! , what else do you expect? It's expensive too yet mom got it for me.
- I had to put it on anyway, since there aren't other options than to do what she wants.
- The only problem that is getting me worked up, is the new school itself, and my new classmates. They sure will all be from a wealthy home and they might not want me in their midst whereas I love to make friends not withstanding their background.
- **
- I came out from my room, dressed and of course looking like a student of Wearous High School.
- Mom already set the table with slices of bread and hot tea.
- "Good morning mom" I greeted perfunctorily and she came over to hug and peck me on both cheeks.
- "Morning darling and Wow you are looking so stunning in that uniform, you're now a unified student of.. "
- "Oh Mom please! " I interrupted then went to have a seat.
- "You know what Audrey, Wearous High is on fire to have a very beautiful girl amidst them" Mom flattered me.
- "And also the poorest girl too" I pouted.
- "Don't say that again" Mom shunned me, somehow angry with what I said.
- I ate two slices of bread and drank the full cup of tea, I ensured that not even a little dropped on my uniform.
- "So it's a restaurant" My Mom just suddenly said.
- "What are you taking about? " I asked.
- "Your new working place" she replied
- Oh, I almost forgot, the after school job.
- I frowned.
- "I talked to the manager, the pay is quite good and guess what? they pay daily" My Mom said.
- "Let's not talk about the pay yet. Mom you said I'll be working at a restaurant, you know what that means? There would be lot of customers there" I told her.
- "Why not, it's the most popular eatery in the Estate" Mom smiled
- I placed my hands above my fore-head... Arrgh, the whole thing is giving me headache.
- "Mom, there would be a lot of customers" I repeated "And some of the male customers may be flity...You called me a very beautiful girl didn't you? So when flirty guys sees a beautiful girl, what do you expect? " I asked trying to make her understand
- "Audrey, do you know what I went through before I got you this huge paying job? " Mom queried
- "Are you trying to tell me to give it to them? " I smiled
- "What? No and why would I? Not after what your father did to me" Mom said frowning.
- I hate when she talks about Dad.
- "You know what to do dear, Ignore them okay? " My mom said.
- I looked at the small wall clock. Oh my God! I woke up very early, how did I spend so much time already.
- "I'm already late" I almost shouted. "On my very first day of school" I added as I stood up and quickly took my schoolbag and hung it on my back.
- "Take care baby" My mom gave me another peck on the cheek and I walked hastily out of the house.
- Even the cab driver would be surprised..why I am going to school so late.
- **
- **At Wearous High School .
- I climbed the stairs following all guides and instructions scribbled on the walls and doors.
- Soon I found my new classroom and there was a teacher in there-teaching.
- I took a deep breath in the out then I walked in.
- All eyes were on me when I walked in, including the teacher.
- "Um...I'm a transferred student" I said to the teacher when he kept gazing at me with a what-do-you-want look.
- "Oh, welcome. Hey class.. Meet..." He paused since he doesn't know my name.
- "Audrey Kathleen" I told him.
- Kathleen is my mom's name.
- "Introduce yourself" He said carelessly.
- I walked forward
- "Hey everyone, my name is Audrey" I repeated.
- Just so you know, the word shy is not in my dictionary.
- I'm so bold and- friendly.
- But as if they already knew my identity as a poor girl, only few replied back with "Hi"
- "There" The teacher, whom I'm yet to know his name pointed at the back, the last seat.
- "It's an empty seat, get sitted and I hope you'll get along soon with your new classmates" He said.
- Hm! I hope so too.
- "Hell noo" I can't believe some girls actually shouted at me.
- I exhaled, ignoring them while I went to have my seat-comfortably.
- **
- "Hi" I said to my seatmate who happens to be a guy, a very cute guy
- I love to make friends remember?
- The handsome guy looked down to my hand which I offered for a handshake, then shook his head in negation and he looked away.
- "I'm Audrey"
- Oh, I already introduced myself.
- "It's nice to meet you, what's your name? " I asked him but he gave me deaf ears.
- Why am I bothering myself to make friends with him?
- *
- The class came to an end quite soon and I overheard the students saying the next teacher is busy and he or she won't be coming to class.
- At this point, I'm beginning to miss my former school. If there wasn't a teacher in the class, someone would come out and read out romantic poems and rhythms and those with no lover would pretend to be in love.. It was fun but here, ....
- Suddenly One, two, three girls walked up to me
- Ok... why are these girls all gathered here in front of me? with some sort of look, angry looks!
- Why? What have I done to them? Why are they upset with me and who are they?
