Chapter 8 Finally Found Love

  • When it all came to an end, Nadia felt sore all over. Joseph pulled her into his arms with one hand, allowing her to rest her head on his shoulder. His hand landed on her waist, his dark eyes sparkling with amusement. “Mrs. Lawson, are you satisfied?”
  • Nadia's face suddenly flushed with burning intensity.
  • The memories of just a moment ago flooded back into her mind.
  • For the first time, she pleaded with him... not to stop.
  • Moreover, she had also called him “Hubby.”
  • Nadia's face flushed crimson, extending all the way to her neck. Her entire body was burning up as if on fire. She simply wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole.
  • This is so embarrassing. I can't believe that Joseph's grandfather actually spiked our food! He clearly had more pies than me, but why am I the one who was more desperate?
  • Nadia, unwilling to accept it, retorted with a blush on her face, “You clearly ate them too!”
  • Joseph looked at her, his smile incredibly captivating. “But I do have self-control!”
  • When he said that, Nadia felt an urge to hit him. It was as if he implied that she didn't have the same.
  • No sooner had she raised her hand than Joseph seized it. With a smile playing on his lips, Joseph gently kissed her earlobe, his warm breath fanning against her ear. “Say 'Hubby' again. Let me hear it!” he urged in a soft, suggestive voice.
  • Nadia's face turned even redder, the urge to hit him returning. After all, he was the one who wanted her to call him that.
  • Right then, Joseph's phone rang.
  • Joseph reached out for the phone on the bedside table, his face shifting from playful to serious. He answered the call in front of Nadia, “Hello?”
  • Unaware of what was said on the other end, Joseph's expression changed abruptly. He immediately withdrew his hand from around Nadia's waist, seemingly indifferent to her being left on the bed. As he dressed, he said, “I'll be right there. Take good care of Ms. Cooper!”
  • Joseph got off the bed while speaking, hastily making his way toward the door.
  • Nadia was left lying on the bed, watching his retreating figure. Her heart turned cold in an instant.
  • She had actually allowed herself to feel something for a moment, assuming he must have loved her too. She even fantasized about how wonderful it would be if they could spend their lives together.
  • However, reality had a way of slapping one in the face.
  • Joseph walked up to the door, attempting to pull it open, but it wouldn't budge. With a stern look on his face, he turned to Nadia and said, “Ask Grandpa to open the door. It's locked!”
  • He firmly believed that, at that moment, only Nadia could persuade Victor to open the door.
  • Nadia looked at him, a heavy dose of sarcasm in her gaze. “Mr. Lawson, are you asking me to assist you in your secret rendezvous with your lover? What if I refuse?”
  • Joseph looked at her, his thin lips pursed. A shadow of gloom draped over his face, his patience entirely depleted at that moment.
  • He didn't utter a word. Striding over to the window, he pushed it open. With a firm push off the windowsill, he launched himself toward the ground.
  • Nadia gasped abruptly.
  • He left just like that, preferring to risk injury by jumping out the window in order to see Samantha.
  • Nadia's heart lay shattered.
  • Upon hearing a thud, the sound of something heavy hitting the ground, the elderly Victor, who had just returned to his room glanced, out the window. There, he saw his eldest grandson, limping as he hurried toward the Maybach parked in the courtyard.
  • Victor was exasperated, his palm slamming down onto the bedside table. This good-for-nothing, he must have been called away by Samantha again!
  • Nadia had a sleepless night. The following morning, she made a call to Joseph. “You should be free today, right? Let's finalize the divorce procedures. Continuing like this isn't good for either of us.”
  • Her voice was calm and composed, with a hint of nasality.
  • It was evident from last night that Joseph seemed ready to risk his life for Samantha.
  • Looking back at herself, she felt like a joke.
  • A familiar male voice came from the other end, “Nadia, it's Timothy. Joe has twisted his ankle, he's at my granddad's clinic.”
  • Timothy's maternal grandfather ran a clinic that specialized in treating orthopedic conditions.
  • Nadia was taken aback.
  • Half an hour later, she arrived at Benjamin Zimmerman's clinic.
  • In the clinic, Joseph was still dressed in yesterday's clothes, appearing somewhat disheveled. “Old Mr. Zimmerman, isn't there a way for me to stand right now?”
  • Victor chuckled without a word. “When you jumped off the building, did you not consider the possibility of not being able to stand up again?”
  • Joseph was somewhat frustrated.
  • At that moment, Timothy called out, “Nadia!”
  • Joseph turned his head, only to see a tall figure appearing at the clinic's entrance.
  • While he was caught by surprise, Nadia simply held his gaze for a few seconds.
  • A whirlwind of emotions had already swept over her heart. Only after confirming that he was not seriously harmed did she ask, “Can you walk?”
  • Joseph furrowed his brows, his emotions complex. “Nadia...”
  • He was indeed in the wrong for leaving at that time.
  • “Sammy had a severe asthma attack last night. It was life-threatening, so I...”
  • He had no choice but to leave.
  • “So, the sooner we get the divorce procedures done, the sooner you won't be locked up in the house anymore.”
  • Nadia spoke earnestly, her physical discomfort making her want to skip anything unnecessary.
  • She had decided to divorce Joseph directly.
  • Joseph pursed his lips as he looked at her, falling into silence.
  • Nadia turned and left. However, she didn't drive far from the clinic before she couldn't hold on any longer and had to pull over to the side of the road.
  • Stanley casually glanced out the window, only to spot a familiar Volkswagen parked by the roadside.
  • He gestured for the driver to stop the car, then he opened the door and stepped out.
  • “Ms. Xander?” Stanley lightly tapped on the car window.
  • Nadia leaned against the chair, her eyes closed. With a pale complexion, she remained completely still.
  • Stanley furrowed his brows, forcefully pulling open the car door. He cradled Nadia's body with both hands, lifting her out of the car. After that, he ordered his driver, “Quick, to the hospital!”
  • Nadia felt weak all over, her body temperature running high. Throughout the journey, she rested her head listlessly against Stanley's chest. Stanley, disregarding appearances, held her with one arm while he used his free hand to call a doctor he knew well.
  • When the car arrived at the hospital, Stanley gently lifted Nadia from the vehicle. The driver offered to help, but Stanley declined.
  • Nadia was carried straight to the hospital room where the doctor examined her, measured her temperature, and even took her blood for testing.
  • She caught a virus together with a bacterial infection, causing a high fever of thirty-nine degrees. The doctor had prescribed some medicine, but Nadia was still feeling terrible and weak all over. Stanley personally fed her the medicine, then stayed by her bedside.
  • Over an hour later, Nadia's fever began to subside, and she seemed to regain some of her energy.
  • “Thank you, Mr. Sinclair,” she said sheepishly.
  • Stanley, impeccably dressed in a suit, sat on the chair beside the bed, offering a smile. “Don't mention it. We're friends after all.”
  • When Stanley smiled, the faint wrinkles at the corners of his eyes revealed the warmth and steadiness of a mature man.
  • This was a man who gave her a sense of comfort.
  • If only Joseph could be like this.
  • As it was nearing noon, Stanley instructed his driver, “Tell Gastronomy Haven to send over a light and appetizing meal.”
  • Then, turning to Nadia, she asked, “Do you know Joseph?”
  • Nadia was taken aback.
  • Stanley chuckled. “I heard you call his name.”
  • A tremor ran through Nadia's heart. Did I call his name? I don't remember it at all.
  • Her thick eyelashes fluttered, concealing something within. In a soft voice, she said. “I don't know him.”
  • Stanley breathed a sigh of relief. If she had been one of Joseph's admirers, things would have been complicated. Thankfully, she wasn't.
  • At that moment, someone outside was gesturing for his attention.
  • Thus, Stanley rose and left.
  • Outside the door, the middle-aged doctor in a white coat gave him a knowing wink. “Have you finally found love?”
  • In all these years, Stanley had never been so kind to any girl. However, he personally carried one to the hospital, and the level of concern he displayed was unprecedented.
  • Stanley broke into a smile, replying, “She's a relative.”
  • “Look at the smirk on your face, yet you still claim you're just relatives!” His friend tossed him a contemptuous look before walking away.
