Chapter 6 Offending People

  • Sophie looked through the information and discovered that hackers from Anglandur were attacking the firewall of Chanaea.
  • If successful, it would jeopardize Chanaea's national security, plunging the country into a crisis.
  • Sophie deleted the information and took a cab to the Tanner residence.
  • As soon as she entered, Charmaine approached her.
  • “Sophie, it's not easy for you to get into Jipsdale Premier High. I hope you won't stir up trouble. Now you and your sister are in the same school. If you have any questions, you can ask her.”
  • Despite her disdain, Charmaine couldn't deny that Sophie was her daughter, and there was nothing she could do to change that. So, she hoped Sophie wouldn't negatively influence Willow.
  • “Mom, don't worry. I'll take good care of Sophie and prevent her from making the same mistakes again.” Willow cozied up to Charmaine, hugging her arm affectionately, though her mind was plotting.
  • Five years ago, she ruined Sophie's reputation, and five years later, Sophie wouldn't be her match.
  • “Are you two done pretending? Can you stop nauseating me? What I do is my own business and has nothing to do with you. If you enjoy acting so much, why not become an actor?” Sophie retorted.
  • She then went straight upstairs without even glancing at them.
  • “Look at her attitude! She thinks she's so great after doing such things. She still hasn't learned to repent.” Charmaine was almost driven to madness by her daughter.
  • Willow sneered inwardly but kept a straight face.
  • “Mom, don't be angry. You still have me, and I won't let you down.”
  • “Yes! Fortunately, there's you. You've never disappointed me. You know the situation our family is in now. You must not disappoint me.”
  • Once Willow married into a prestigious family, there would be hope for the Tanner family.
  • Ignoring the two downstairs, Sophie returned to her room and took out her laptop.
  • She switched it on. This laptop appeared to be a rather ordinary, domestically produced one, but its startup speed was faster than an Apple laptop.
  • In less than three seconds after pressing the power button, the laptop was fully booted up.
  • The laptop's interface was similar to that of a regular one.
  • Sophie sat on the bed and placed, the laptop on her lap, her fingers swiftly typing a string of code on the keyboard.
  • “It's him!”
  • Sophie had a good idea of what was going on after less than a minute of engaging with Anglandur's hackers.
  • “You're dead.” They had the guts to target Chanaea. If she didn't teach them a lesson this time, they would think there were no talented people in Chanaea.
  • Her fingers danced across the keyboard, and lines of code appeared on the laptop screen.
  • At the Intelligence Agency of Anglandur, the hackers were hard at work.
  • “How's it going? Did you get it?” he anxiously asked while looking at the computer. This time, they were trying to steal military defense data from Chanaea.
  • “F*ck.” Just as they were about to succeed, they were blocked, and the program was also fortified with an indestructible firewall.
  • The Anglandur hacker slammed the mouse down in frustration, then suddenly remembered something and quickly started typing on the keyboard.
  • “What's wrong?”
  • “It's over.” Just as he realized what the other party was up to, Anglandur's firewall was breached. When he tried to encrypt it, his computer froze for a full ten seconds. In those ten seconds, Anglandur's confidential files were hacked.
  • “What's going on?”
  • “They've stolen our confidential files.”
  • “What? Who is it? Didn't you say you were invincible?”
  • “It must be Phantom from Wings of Light. Apart from her, no one can challenge me.”
  • “Our confidential files are all significant. You'd better think about how to explain this to the president!”
  • “Phantom, just you wait.”
  • Meanwhile, Sophie sent the data to Butterfly, then entered a few lines of code to erase all traces before shutting down her laptop.
  • As soon as she switched off her laptop, Butterfly's call came in.
  • “I knew as long as you took action, there would be no problem, but I didn't expect you to steal someone else's confidential files in such a short time. You're truly incredible, practically a legendary figure. No one in this world can surpass you.”
  • “If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up.” Sophie yawned, looking indifferent.
  • She had become immune to such flattery.
  • “I understand. Should I transfer the money to your previous account?”
  • “Mm.”
  • Before Butterfly could continue, Sophie hung up.
  • On the other hand, Charles stared at his black screen, feeling as if his brain had crashed.
  • “F*ck, my computer got hacked too.” He wanted to catch Phantom! How did he get hacked out of nowhere?
  • “Charles, can you handle this?” Felix couldn't help but laugh.
  • “It's Phantom. No one else could have pulled this off.” In such a short span of time, she had successfully hacked into someone else's computer without leaving a trace. No one but her could have done it.
  • “Do you have any clues?” Tristan, who had been silent all along, finally spoke up.
  • “Just one. Phantom is in Jipsdale.” After such a long time, this was the only useful information he had tracked down.
  • “Find a way to contact Wings of Light.” Wings of Light was a mysterious hacker alliance. No one knew exactly where they were based, but their members were extremely capable, and the most capable of them all was Phantom.
  • After giving his instructions, Tristan returned to the CEO's office to handle his work.
  • After completing the task, Sophie continued playing games on her bed.
  • At that moment, there was a knock at the door. Sophie rose to her feet and went to open it.
  • “Sophie, it's me.”
  • Upon hearing the elderly man's voice, Sophie got out of bed to open the door.
  • “Grandpa, what's the matter?” Sophie asked, guiding the old man into her room.
  • “Tell me what happened five years ago. You're my granddaughter, and I want those who did wrong to be punished.”
  • “Grandpa, you don't need to worry about this.” Given his advanced age, why bother worrying about her affairs? “Just focus on taking care of your health. That's enough.”
  • “I know you've been wronged. I wasn't home five years ago, so I couldn't protect you. But now that I'm here, no one can bully you. Study hard, and don't think about anything else.”
  • He continued, “Here's a card for you. Take it, buy whatever you need, and if you run out of money, I will give you more. Just don't let yourself suffer, okay?” A girl her age should spend some effort to dress up nicely. However, his Sophie, who should have been the most cherished little princess of the Tanner family, had developed such a personality.
  • It had been a long time since she felt such warmth. Even though Sophie was strong, her throat tightened a bit.
  • “Thank you, Grandpa.”
  • She couldn't bear to refuse the old man's kindness.
  • In the afternoon, just as Sophie arrived at school, Butterfly called again, which she found annoying.
  • Sophie found a secluded corner to take the call.
  • “Phantom, have you offended someone recently?”
  • “When have I not offended anyone?”
  • Even if she didn't provoke others, they would come to provoke her. What could she do?
  • “Do you know Lombard Group? They're investigating you.” Nothing could be hidden from Wings of Light.
  • “Lombard Group? I know.” Sophie still didn't take it seriously.
  • “Be careful. Lombard Group is not to be trifled with.” In all of Jipsdale, no financial group could compare to Lombard Group in terms of power.
