Chapter 8 Ch Eight
- Blaine
- There are so many things in my life that I have come to regret doing but none of those things came close to putting my trust in a man who was supposed to be a father figure to me.
- Elder Eldwyn, my late father’s best friend, was the one who taught me everything I knew about leadership.
- Unfortunately, I lost both of my parents when I was barely five years old and my father’s best friend took it upon himself to make sure I was well equipped for the Alpha Seat.
- He taught me how to become the most feared and fiercest in a room and also how to easily spot the weaknesses of others and use them to my advantage.
- At first, I felt I owed him my entire life.
- It was rare to find a true best friend who wouldn’t have taken advantage of the death of the former Alpha and how young the heir was, to make himself the new Alpha.
- Elder Eldwyn could easily have done that.
- He had the support of the other elders who felt that he was the most capable for the Alpha position when my father passed.
- I was young and inexperienced but Eldwyn insisted that I be placed on that seat, offering his guidance and teachings until I was old enough and well-learned enough to stand on my own.
- It was absolutely normal for me to have felt a sense of strong loyalty towards him.
- So much so that when I first realized that I was mated to an Omega, I sought his counsel.
- “Son, you and I both know that an Omega doesn’t deserve to be in the Luna seat. It would be so disrespectful to your late mother to give her seat to a mere serving girl,” he had said.
- “Are you suggesting that I reject her?” I queried, ignoring the pain that had knifed through my heart at the thought of rejecting my mate.
- I had long since learnt that as an Alpha, sometimes I had to make difficult decisions.
- It didn’t matter how I felt about it.
- Choosing a Luna wasn’t a personal affair.
- It was my sacrifice as the leader of my Pack to choose a Luna that would be efficient enough in her duties to the Pack as opposed to choosing just any woman that my heart fancied.
- Elder Eldwyn threw an arm over my shoulder. “You do not have to reject her. She can be your plaything. Her purpose should be to satisfy your sexual needs only. Nothing more. In fact, I suggest you warn her to keep the mate bond she shares with you, a secret.”
- “It’s not going to look good for your reputation if the others find out that the Moon Goddess chose to mate you to an Omega.”
- “Of course,” I replied with a nod.
- “Good,” he murmured and patted my shoulder. “So, have you thought about who you are going to make the Luna of this Pack?”
- Taking a Luna hadn’t been something I wanted to do until I was in my mid-thirties at least.
- At that time, I was still in my late twenties.
- “I think it’s still early,” I answered.
- “Please tell me you are not serious,” he said, his dark brown eyes betraying his mild alarm.
- “This Pack has been without a Luna for years now. I didn’t want to bother you about it before but the elders are starting to complain.”
- “I’m afraid that you might have to choose a Luna before the year runs out to prevent their complaints from escalating into something you might not find pleasant.”
- I frowned, wondering what the essence of having a Luna was except to produce heirs.
- Still, I reasoned that it wasn’t going to be so hard to just name a Luna.
- The problem was that I had no idea who to choose.
- “Do you have someone in mind?” I queried.
- He positively beamed.
- “There are many eligible women but I strongly suggest that you choose Amanda Eldwyn,” he replied.
- I arched an eyebrow. “Isn’t that your daughter?”
- “She is going to serve you as hard as I have served both you and your late father.”
- I had no reason to doubt him. I could trust him with my life and I believed that he had the best interests of the Pack in heart.
- “Fine. Can I at least get to know her properly? I would prefer if I’m not choosing a total stranger as the Luna and my wife.”
- “Say no more,” he murmured with twinkling eyes.
- Later that day, Amanda Eldwyn had walked into my chambers and I had to admit what a stunning redhead she was.
- She certainly must have taken after her mother in physical features because she looked nothing like her father.
- Her blue eyes sparkled with mischief as she dipped into a curtsy without taking her gaze off me.
- “Amanda, at your service, Alpha Blaine.”
- One thing that I had immediately noticed about her was that she wasn’t as frightened of me as most other women I had encountered.
- Perhaps, it was her father’s closeness to me that emboldened her.
- “Please just call me, Blaine,” I replied.
- “Blaine,” she said in a sultry voice.
- I arched an eyebrow at her boldness and gestured for her to sit.
- We got talking and I soon realized that Eldwyn was right. Not that I had doubted him anyway.
- Amanda was perfect Luna material and it was a plus that she was also very attractive.
- I could see myself having sex with her and filling her up with my heirs.
- It didn’t matter that she wasn’t going to make my blood burn with desire half as much as my mate could.
- I was an Alpha and my desires weren’t as important as what my Pack needed.
- Besides, it wasn’t as though Freya, my mate, wasn't always going to be there when I needed her.
- She was my subject after all and was always going to do as I commanded.
- Unfortunately, I ended up ruining things by getting her pregnant.
