Chapter 13 Wang Sisi Astonished

• In spite of shock, Chen Xi probed, “Lin Jue, haven’t you and Peibai...”
• “We’ll talk about that later. Pay them first... This card is not encoded!” Lin Jue waved off Chen Xi’s query.
• Mouth agape, Chen Xi was shocked beyond belief. But before she could say anything further to Lin Jue, the suppliers pounced on her.
• In only ten minutes, the clamoring suppliers went from hounds to sheep because they were getting their payments.
• “Look, Ms. Chen. We’re sorry for our rash actions just now. Please understand that there are many under our payrolls….” one of the suppliers said sheepishly after getting their payment.
• “Yeah, I’m really sorry about just now. I look forward to working with your company again, Ms. Chen...” said the supplier who had just assaulted Lin Jue a few moments ago.
• “Get the hell out of here!” snapped Lin Jue with a very compelling aura around him. Overwhelmed by Lin Jue’s supreme aura, the creditors scrambled off. They would not dare cross the man who had just whisked out a black card and paid off the debts amounting to almost 10,000,000 in one go.
• After the mob had left, Lin Jue beckoned at Chen Xi and Wang Sisi to go into the office. Inside, he asked, “What the hell was that? Haven’t you been running the company well?”
• Chen Xi and Wang Sisi had not quite recovered from their astonishment. The duo were shocked beyond belief. They didn’t know Lin Jue was so wealthy. It must have been him who had helped them last year when their company was faced with its most crucial challenge yet. And even though Lin Jue had divorced Shen Peibai, he was still willing to fork out the money to help her.
• Having preoccupied with the relationship issue between Lin Jue and Shen Peibai, Sisi ignored his question and said, “Lin Jue, I must tell you something. It’s about Peibai. I think you must be having some very, very grave misunderstanding about her…”
• “Hmm? Misunderstanding?” Lin Jue frowned and gazed at Wang Sisi.
• Wang Sisi took a deep breath and nodded. “You must have misunderstood Peibai. Perhaps, you feel that her attitude toward you have been lukewarm. But that’s the way she is! Her mom has never really cared for her since she was young. The only person who cared for her had been her father. You wouldn’t know how much she’s missed her father. When her father passed away last year, she felt like she’d lost her purpose of life and she even thought of committing suicide…”
• Lin Jue was shocked by the information.
• Wang Sisi continued, “Since young, Peibai has always been stubborn and competitive. She would hide her sufferings and weaknesses to maintain the image of a strong woman. But when Mr. Shen died, she suddenly lost her pillar of strength. She had never been in a romantic relationship since young. She didn’t know how to love someone and that’s the reason she’s neglected your feelings…”
• Chen Xi nodded in concurrence, “Lin Jue, what Wang Sisi has said is true. In fact, the reason why Shen Peibai disliked you was because she thought that a man should have a career of his own. And it was a sign of incompetence to her that a man stayed at home as a house husband. She didn’t know that you actually didn’t need to find work…”
• “Umm… Can you be more forthright about what you want to tell me?” sensing that perhaps he had neglected something about Shen Peibai, he pursued.
• Wang Sisi drew in a deep breath. “I went to visit Shen Peibai this afternoon. When I asked her whether she had any feelings for you, all she did was cry… Obviously, you have a place in her heart, Lin Jue. I know that you’ve made up your mind to leave Nanjiang City, but can you please stay? Just stay for Peibai and continue to take care of her. She's already lost her father, she can’t bear to lose you also…”
• Lin Jue raised his eyebrows. “But isn’t Wang Yuzhen by her side?”
• Wang Sisi shook her head and with a wry smile on her face, she said, “Wang Yuzhen is not her biological mother. In fact, she only sees Peibai as her cash cow. She never stops asking Peibai for money. And Peibai was kind enough to put up with her. Morever, Peibai’s father willed her to take good care of Wang Yuzhen when he was dying. So, Lin Jue, please… Please forgive Peibai just once, will you? She really has feelings for you… C-can you annul the divorce?”
• Lin Jue felt like his head was going to implode. A surge of pain tore through his heart as he clenched his fists firmly. He knew from his meeting with Shen Peibai earlier today that she had had deep regrets and had put blames on herself, otherwise she would not have apologized to Lin Jue over and over again.
• Lin Jue drew in a deep breath with his eyes fixed on the two women before him and said, “Don’t let me find out that you lied to me about what you just said, or I will make you regret for it!”
• The teary-eyed Chen Xi and Wang Sisi nodded. “Well... If we lied to you, just do whatever you want to us...”
• Lin Jue paused in silence for a moment and then began, “Tell me… Why your company has gotten into this trouble?”
• Chen Xi gazed deeply at Lin Jue and asked, “Hmm… You should know better than us, shouldn’t you?”
• Lin Jue was confused now and he inquired, “How should I know?”
• Wang Sisi tugged at Chen Xi's arm, shook her head at her and whispered, “He probably has no idea about it….”
• But the cantankerous Chen Xi ignored Wang Sisi’s hints and flung away Wang Sisi’s hand. And then she pointed her finger at Lin Jue’s face and bellowed, “Lin Jue! Right, we know that you have been through a lot of suffering with the Shen’s over the past one year. But she was your wife! How could you have your friend kick us out of all of the projects we had with Jiuzhou Group as soon as you divorced Peibai? Are you telling me you didn’t know about that? Huh? Tell me!”
• Lin Jue studied the hysterical Chen Xi and frowned deeply. He still recalled that day vividly when Jiang Chenru came to report to him and he had instructed Jiang Chenru to wire the second tranche of the project fund to Shen Peibai.
• Thinking of that, Lin Jue took out his mobile phone and sent a Wechat text message to Jiang Chenru, asking the latter to come to Shen Peibai's office immediately.
• After sending the text message, Lin Jue resumed questioning Chen Xi, “You mean I told my friend to stop all business collaborations with Peibai?”
• “Oh, don’t tell me you had nothing to do with that?” Chen Xi growled coldly.
• Lin Jue did not answer that rhetorical question, instead, he lit a cigarette and began puffing. While their guest went into silence, Chen Xi and Wang Sisi did not break the silence. The atmosphere in the office was heightened to the extreme.
• Before the cigarette Lin Jue had lit burnt out, a man in gray suit who was none other than Jiang Chenru entered the office.
• The moment Jiang Chenru entered the office, Wang Sisi and Chen Xi leapt to their feet in disbelief.
• “Mr. Jiang, please give us a chance to explain ourselves. We have been executing the projects in collaboration with your company conscientiously. Please, just give us a chance to prove ourselves.” said Chen Xi obsequiously to their new guest.
• “That’s right, Mr. Jiang. There must be some misunderstanding between us. Please hear us out. We’re definitely up to the task...” Wang Sisi added. Even until now, Wang Sisi and Chen Xi had failed to realize why Jiang Chenru, the celebrated Chief Executive Officer of Jiuzhou Group, would come to their office personally. It was probably because they were so stupefied by the fact that Jiang Chenru showed up in their office that they could not grasp the implication of that.
• But both of them were astounded by what they witnessed the next moment. Lin Jue went up to Jiang Chenru and gave the latter a hard smack across his face.
