Chapter 3 Henry Owen
- I retired to my bed after a stressful day.
- My phone rang and I took it from my bag to see the caller. It's Scarlett. I picked it up.
- "Hello baby." I said immediately I picked up.
- "Hey, what's up?" She asked.
- "I am not cool at all." I complained to her.
- "What do you mean by that?" She asked.
- "Scarlett, my expenses are much. I don't even know what to do. Do you see the message I sent to you?" I told her.
- "Yes I saw it. That was the reason I called you. Sophie, I am so sorry but I don't think I will be able to lend you money. We are using our savings to buy our baby's stuff. I will soon put to bed. We are even relocating to Mexico next tomorrow. We are going to Evan's home town." She said and my heart sank.
- "Am I not important to you? Why are you just telling me you're pregnant now. Why are you just telling me you are relocating? I know I have been a burden to you before but is the burden to this extent?" I asked her as water filled my eyes.
- "No, no, Sophie. I just.." I cut her off.
- "You know what? I have heard you. I hope you have a safe flight there and I wish you best in life. Bye." I cut the phone after that.
- Then I broke down. I am always a threat or a burden to everybody. No one ever loves me. They always hated me.
- My parents were drug dealers and when I discovered it, I threatened them to stop their illegal act or I would report them to the police. I just wanted them to stop so that we can live a normal life like a good family should but I got kicked out of the house instead.
- Scarlett stopped trusting me after I started squatting in her house with her husband. She always keeps an eye on me. The connection we had as friends faded when I started dating my boyfriend. I should be the one angry but I was not but instead, I was the bad one in their relationship.
- Rosaline saw me as a threat and that is the reason why she has been living in her imaginary world. That is why both her aunt and herself have been trying to pull me down.
- The only thing I have is my job and myself. Nothing more.
- I totally understand that she needs money and I am not angry about that but why did she want to leave me alone in this city.
- I am seriously lonely. I have no one. I have no true person who truly cares about me. I am just alone in this cruel world.
- "I should go and look for jobs." I said to myself as I sat up. Crying won't help the situation, right?
- I went out of my apartment going from one cafe, restaurant and even bar parlor to another but I never got any. They have been occupied.
- I got home and locked my door. I ate dinner and went to sleep. Tomorrow is another school day.
- I woke up to the sound of the annoying alarm. I stood up and went straight to the toilet and I did my normal routine and came out. I dressed up, cooked for myself and left my apartment. I got to school at almost eight o'clock and went straight to the classroom.
- My students came in and got seated.
- Henry looked dull this morning. He hasn't even been responding well in class today.
- "Henry, come over here." I called him and he hesitantly came.
- "What's wrong?" I asked him.
- "I don't like that aunt at home. She used to yell at me. She doesn't like me. I don't want her in my house." The three year old child said.
- "Who is that aunty?" I asked him.
- "She is my dad's girlfriend." He elaborated.
- Henry is so smart. He is so young and he can still understand what is going on around him.
- "What about your mom?" I asked him. J has been dying to know where his mom is. I have never seen her in my life, I only knew his dad. His mom never came to the school.
- "I don't know. I have never seen her in my life." He said sadly.
- Well, she might have dropped the child immediately when she gave birth to him and ran away. Who knows? Or he might just give her massive money to get the fuck out of their lives. Most billionaires do that anyway.
- "Oh! Well you know what? You shouldn't be scared of her. You should tell her if she yells at you again, you are going to tell your dad and I am very sure she wouldn't want that to happen." I encouraged him.
- "I have told my dad several times but he keeps saying she will change." He said.
- "Don't worry, I will inform your dad about this. Now, Cheer up. I need that Henry I used to know. Smile and go and play." I told him.
- "Thank you, ma." He said as he smiled and he went back to his seat.
- It was lunch time, so I went to the cafeteria to have my lunch.
- I took my test to a table after serving myself.
- "Hey Miss Maxwell, can I sit with you?" Mr Robinson asked as he looked at me with a smile on his face.
- "Yes, you can," I told him.
- Mr Robinson has been the most popular teacher in his school. He has been teaching in this school for almost a year now. He is known for his stingy behavior and his handsomeness.
- Yes, he is handsome and at the same time stingy.
- I started eating my food quietly, praying that I would finish it on time to avoid talking to him.
- "So?" He said.
- "So what?" I asked him.
- "Why don't you like me?" He asked.
- What did he mean by that? I never hated him.
- "What do you mean by that?" I asked him confused.
- "I mean, you always avoid talking to me. Everyone is free around me except you." He said.
- "Must be everyone? Well, I think we don't have anything in common to talk about." I said sincerely.
- "Oh okay. Can we be friends, I am sure we will surely have something in common." he said nervously.
- "Okay. No problem." I told him.
- "Thank you. Are you free after school? I want to go to the cinema to watch the latest movie. Do you mind joining me?" He asked.
- "Well, I do mind because I have other jobs I am doing aside from teaching." I lied to him.
- "Okay. Can I get your number?" He asked.
- "Yes." He passed his phone to me and I punched my number there.
- I stood up and carried my tray.
- "That's my number." I told him and went away but for sure he followed me.
- I dropped my tray and proceeded outside the cafeteria.
- "Can I buy you a coffee?" He asked. What? He wants to buy me a coffee?
- I turned to him as I raised my brows in surprise.
- "Just wait here." He said and I did as instructed.
- He came back with two cups of coffee. He freaking bought me a coffee.
- I thought people said he was stingy and I have even witnessed it with my eyes before.
- "Thank you." I managed to say as I took my leave.
- I am still amused about what just happened.
- I got to the classroom and put the coffee on the table. I can't drink it while it is hot, right?
- Now, I need to speak to Henry's father when he comes to pick him up.
