- Deanna woke up to gentle knocks on the door. It was Susan who had come to check on the child. Startled, she looked at the time: nearly nine.
- "Susan, come in... Jonathan is still sleeping."
- "Sorry to disturb you, but yesterday mom told me the child wasn't well so I came to check on him."
