Chapter 10 I Was The Buffoon

  • “D*mn, you trying to act tough with me?” With a hardened expression, Winston raised his fist, ready to throw a punch.
  • “Stop!” Suddenly, an urgent voice rang out.
  • Following that, a middle-aged man dressed in a black business suit was seen striding over.
  • Upon seeing the man, Winston smiled. He spoke up. “Hendrix, your timing is perfect. Please hurry and kick this idiot out. Since when did Bluebay Park become a place where any Tom, Dick, or Harry could walk in?”
  • Hendrix was the property manager of Bluebay Park. He was aware that No. 7 Mansion had only been sold yesterday. Initially, he had assumed that the new owner would move in a few days later, which is why he had lent No. 7 Mansion to Winston to host a party.
  • To his surprise, just after receiving the notification, the property owner had already arrived.
  • That had truly frightened him, leading him to rush over in a state of utmost urgency.
  • The moment he laid eyes on Finneas, his heart gave a sudden jolt, and a wave of foreboding washed over him.
  • Could this be the property owner? Hendrix studied Finneas carefully, noting that despite the latter's impressive demeanor, his attire was rather ordinary. That observation eased his tense heart a bit.
  • Yet before he could fully let his guard down, a piercing sound rang out once more.
  • “This guy's a real joker, claiming this mansion is his. If what he says is true, I'll eat my hat.” As soon as those words were spoken, they immediately triggered a burst of laughter.
  • Hendrix's heart tightened once again. Swallowing hard, he cautiously asked Finneas, “Excuse me, are you Mr. Lockwood?”
  • Before Finneas could respond, Stephanie couldn't help but start mocking him. “Hendrix, his last name is indeed Lockwood, but he's just a poor guy. The title 'sir' is too grand for him. You don't need to be polite to him.”
  • Hendrix's expression instantly changed when he heard that.
  • “Exactly, Hendrix, I was just about to invite you for a drink. Who would've thought that an intruder would show up? Let's quickly deal with him so we can enjoy our drink in peace.” With a look of disdain, Winston stared at Finneas, his expression haughty.
  • He was completely oblivious to the fact that Hendrix's face had turned extremely unsightly.
  • “Hendrix, don't bother with this idiot anymore. It's bad luck.” Stephanie chuckled softly, sneakily casting flirtatious glances at Hendrix. Her demeanor was quite unrestrained.
  • With a stern expression, Hendrix asked, “Who did you say was an idiot?”
  • “Is that even a question? Who else could it be but this idiot?” Winston's gaze fell on Finneas, chuckling coldly.
  • “You're talking about him?” With a deep voice, Hendrix asked, his voice trembling.
  • As he spoke, he instinctively looked toward Finneas, only to see an expression of indifference on his face.
  • He didn't know who Finneas was, but his father had specifically instructed him not to offend the owner of the mansion under any circumstances or they would face terrible consequences.
  • Hendrix had never seen his own father look so terrified before. Even thinking about it gave him chills!
  • Winston was incessantly chattering, but Hendrix was extremely terrified. Is Winston trying to get me killed?
  • Obliviously, Winston continued, “Hendrix, this guy is a total idiot. If it's inconvenient for you to deal with him, let me take care of it on your behalf. I'll teach him a lesson so that he won't bother you anymore...”
  • “Shut up!” Unable to bear it any longer, Hendrix exploded with a fierce rebuke.
  • Without hesitation, he raised his hand and delivered a harsh slap across Winston's face.
  • The sharp smack of a slap echoed, clearly audible to everyone present.
  • In an instant, everyone was dumbfounded!
  • “Hendrix, you...” After a moment, Winston finally reacted, covering his face with disbelief in his eyes.
  • Stephanie was also terrified, hiding behind a crowd, not uttering a single word.
  • The rest of the people were utterly stunned. No one had anticipated that Hendrix would suddenly erupt.
  • “Hurry up and clean Mr. Lockwood's mansion now!” Hendrix scolded, feeling so furious he could kill.
  • “No way, Hendrix. Have you got it all mixed up? He's just a penniless guy, my middle school classmate. I know him inside and out. How could he possibly be the owner of this mansion?” Despite her setbacks, Stephanie remained undeterred, even going as far as revealing her relationship with Finneas.
  • “Right, Mr. Whittle, this isn't a trivial matter. If we make a mistake and let this person in, and they end up damaging something, I'm afraid you might not be able to shoulder the responsibility, right?”
  • “Moreover, Mr. Whittle, just look at the two of them, dressed in cheap street-market clothes. Do they even look like people who could afford a mansion like this?”
  • “It's not that we looked down on him, it's just that he really didn't have anything impressive about him!”
  • Everyone began to exchange words once again, reigniting the conversation.
  • Hendrix glared furiously at those contemptuous people, wishing he could hammer some sense into their heads.
  • In the midst of a crisp sound, a very exquisite key was tossed to the feet of the crowd by Finneas.
  • “Is that clear enough?” Finneas' voice resonated, devoid of any trace of emotion.
  • If it weren't for the fear of frightening Suzannah, he would have taken action a long time ago. He wouldn't have wasted so much time aimlessly arguing with them.
  • Upon seeing that key, Winston and the others momentarily froze, their expressions gradually turning unsightly, as if they had swallowed a dead fly from a cesspit.
  • How could they possibly not recognize this key?
  • Moreover, they had an identical one in their possession, though those were just a spare key.
  • “Is it really his mansion?” Stephanie's eyes widened, feeling a burning sensation on her face.
  • Recalling her past incessant mockery toward Finneas, she was filled with a sense of regret.
  • The mansions in Bluebay Park were exorbitantly priced, each easily worth hundreds of millions. Anyone who could afford to live there had a net worth of no less than ten billion.
  • She finally understood why Finneas had blatantly ignored her before.
  • Truthfully, in Finneas' eyes, she was nothing but a buffoon.
  • If only she hadn't been so sharp-tongued and snobbish earlier and so status-conscious, given their status as classmates, it was possible she could have reaped some benefits from him.
  • The thought alone filled her with such regret.
  • “What are you all standing around for?” Hendrix barked impatiently. “Get to work, now!”
  • Those men and women, decked out in their colorful attire, didn't dare to utter a word. They obediently followed orders, putting in their utmost effort to clean up.
  • While it may seem that Hendrix was just a property manager, he actually hailed from the prestigious Whittle family of Hofcaster.
  • Their status and position were far superior to those of the disciples from those minor families.
  • Bluebay Park was a high-end residential area developed by the Whittle family. The patriarch, Lucian Whittle, appointed Hendrix as the property manager. The appointment served two purposes; firstly, to hone Hendrix's skills and secondly, to establish connections with influential figures. That was all in an effort to propel the Whittle family to greater heights, transforming them into a truly prestigious clan.
  • As for Winston, he merely hailed from a stupendously wealthy family. Yet, when compared to the elite, the difference was akin to that between a nouveau riche and a noble.
  • After much difficulty, Winston managed to establish a connection with Hendrix. Naturally, he didn't dare to offend him. Hence, he had no choice but to swallow his pride and let others manipulate him.
  • A group of people worked diligently and in no time, they had the mansion spotlessly cleaned.
  • “Mr. Lockwood, are you satisfied with how this has been handled?” Hendrix wore a smile so wide it almost reached his ears, his demeanor reminiscent of a servile subject from ancient times.
  • That sight once again left everyone in shock.
  • They couldn't help but wonder who exactly was Finneas.
  • However, Finneas' response once again left everyone astounded.
