Chapter 8 Critically Ill
- After successfully resolving the situation, Amelia returned to her room to pack her belongings.
- Fortunately, this business trip had been challenging, but nothing went wrong. She wasn't just referring to the incident that angered Benjamin.
- Amelia tried hard to push aside her thoughts and not dwell on Asher's face. However, her mind refused to cooperate. Soon, her phone rang.
- She quickly walked over, and upon seeing the hospital's number, her heart sank.
- Even her hand, which pressed the answer button, was unconsciously trembling.
- "Is this Ms. Snyder? Your mother just had a sudden heart attack, and her condition is critical. She has been taken to the emergency room. Please come quickly!"
- Amelia's vision went blank, nearly causing her to lose her balance.
- However, time did not allow her to delay any further. After just a few seconds, she immediately changed her flight. It was only after she had boarded the plane that she remembered to ask Ashlynn to help explain the situation to Benjamin.
- By the time Amelia arrived at Bloudence, the sky was already darkening.
- She hailed a taxi to the hospital. Just as she arrived, her mother was being transferred from the emergency room to the ICU.
- Looking at her mother on the bed, her cheeks pale, Amelia tried hard to hold back her tears. Despite her efforts, a tear escaped and fell onto the hospital's white sheets.
- "Don't cry..."
- Weakly opening her eyes, Zoey tried to lift her hand to wipe her daughter's tears, but she couldn't summon the strength to do so.
- Amelia quickly wiped her face, forcing a smile. "Mom, I didn't cry. It's just some dust in my eyes! The doctor advised you to rest well and not think about anything!"
- Zoey nodded. In no time, her attending physician came over and called Amelia out.
- "Dr. Walter, how did my mother suddenly have a heart attack? Didn't you say her condition was stable before?"
- "We're doing our best to manage her illness." Anthony Walter sighed. "What are your plans? If you don't proceed with the surgery soon, situations like today's will happen frequently. You need to be mentally prepared."
- Upon hearing this, Amelia immediately asked, "How much does the surgery cost now?"
- "First, prepare one million and get the surgery done. The follow-up treatment isn't as urgent."
- The doctor's mention of one million sounded simple, but for Amelia, it would take several years to earn that amount. It would be too late by then.
- "Take some time to think about it."
- After speaking, the doctor left.
- Alone in the deserted and antiseptic-smelling hospital corridor, Amelia stood for a long time.
- When Ashlynn's call came through, she was still standing in the same spot.
- "How is Mrs. Snyder doing?"
- "The doctor said I should mentally prepare myself without the surgery." Amelia clenched her fists, forcing herself to speak up. "Ashlynn, do you have any spare money you could lend me?"
- For so many years, no matter how difficult it was, she had never borrowed money from anyone. But this time, she was truly out of funds. She had almost spent every penny she earned on prolonging her mother's life.
- "Yes, I have two hundred thousand. I'll transfer it to you right now!" Ashlynn agreed without hesitation. "Send me your account details!"
- "The doctor said the surgery would cost one million."
- "Ashlynn, I might really lose my mom this time..." Amelia leaned against the wall, slowly sliding down. "I can't get one million. I really can't!"
- Ashlynn was also extremely anxious on her end. "Don't give up just yet. There must be another solution!"
- Another solution?
- Amelia suddenly froze.
