Chapter 7 A Monster For An Alpha

  • We walked into the room and boom!!! "Happy birthday!" was echoing all over the room. I blinked in surprise and happiness. Helen, Mary, and other maids were present. Jason was in the room too and he had a cake in his hands. Tears gathered up in my eyes. This was the least I had expected from them. I watched them sing a happy birthday song for me and I tried not to break down in tears.
  • It was getting too much for me to bear. Just watching them sing for me with happiness, made me tear up.
  • "It's ok" Alaila patted my shoulder with a smile on her face.
  • "Thank you, very much, every one of you. Thank you" I cooed.
  • "Happy birthday, Xavia," Jason said, stretching the cake to me. "You should put off the candles' light,"
  • I moved closer to him and blow off the candles' light. Clapping and shouting erupted and I smiled. They reminded me so much about my mom. And though I wanted to break down and weep because I miss my mom so much, something held me back.
  • "This is not the time to cry" I heard a voice, which sounded so much like my mom's, I was tempted to look around, but knew she was dead and there is no way she would have come back to me.
  • "Mom?" I whispered. "Is that you?"
  • I couldn't hold back from trying to speak to her. All I hoped for was to hear her voice which of course I doubted will ever happen.
  • "You should have fun, today is not the day to miss me. Look around you. There are people here to celebrate with you" she answered and I blinked.
  • S-she spoke to me. S-she spoke back to me. I looked around quickly but was disappointed when I did not see her face.
  • "What do you expect to see?" my subconscious asked and I sighed.
  • Nothing!
  • I looked at the faces in the room and I could tell they are all happy to be here to celebrate me. I smiled slightly. Whichever voice has spoken to me was right. I should have fun. For the sake of those that had come to celebrate me. They have done this to make me happy, I should be.
  • "Happy birthday dear," Helen said with a smile and handed over a wrapped box to me.
  • "Thank you, Helen" I cooed and she flashed me her sets of teeth.
  • One after the other, they handed over to me wrapped boxes as birthday presents.
  • "Thank you very much, everyone"
  • "This is from the Alpha" Jason pointed at the box that was seated at the far end of the room.
  • My eyes widened. "The-the Alpha?"
  • "Yes and he wishes you a happy birthday"
  • I smiled. I was not sure if I should shriek in happiness or hop for joy. The Alpha was the least I expected a gift from. I wasn't expecting him to wish me a happy birthday either. I found myself blushing and Alaila poked me slightly. I stared at her and she gave me a mischievous smile.
  • What are you up to, Alaila? I smiled.
  • "I think I should leave you guys to enjoy yourselves. I will get going" Jason said. "Xavia, enjoy your day"
  • I nodded with a smile. "Thanks" I muttered to him and he left.
  • After Jason left, Helen waited for a while, before leaving too. We danced for a few minutes before eating the cake and the food Helen had brought. There were drinks for us too and we finished up everything in a few minutes. We talked about a lot of things but had to end the party when it was time for the maids to clean up the kitchen. After they left, Alaila moved closer to me.
  • "It's time to open up your gifts. I am curious to know what the Alpha sent" she whispered.
  • "I am curious to know too" I replied standing up.
  • Alaila helped me carry the box and we kept it on the bed. The box was heavy and that made me more curious to know what he had sent. I have no special relationship with the Alpha, so I never expected a gift from him.
  • But what did the Alpha send? I stare at Alaila and she nodded with a smile.
  • "Should we make a count?" I asked in excitement.
  • "I think that is a good idea" Alaila answered.
  • "Then at the count of three, we open it up."
  • She nodded. "I am so excited right now"
  • "Me too" I answered. I sucked in some air and smiled. "I will begin the count. One... Two... And... Three!"
  • We opened up the wrap and then the box quickly. I stared into the content of the box and my eyes dilated in shock, with Alaila busting into a series of laughter.
  • I was angry and I kept paving around the room. I stopped moving promptly and turned to face her.
  • "It's not funny," I said and she placed her hand over her mouth.
  • "I am so sorry for laughing but I can't help it"
  • I groaned slightly. "You are still laughing"
  • "I can't help it. I never thought the Alpha will send you fruits as a birthday gift"
  • I moved closer to her and sit beside her. "It's not like I am expecting something from him but I do not expect him to send me fruits as a gift either"
  • "Neither do I. Fruits are the least gift I had expected you to receive" she muttered with a laugh, but when I stared at her, she stopped laughing. "Sorry," she muttered.
  • "Why will he send me a gift in the first place?" I said and she nodded.
  • "I want to know too. You both do not have any close relationship. Or do you?" she winked at me and I frown.
  • "The Alpha who doesn't speak to anyone. What possible relationship could we have?"
  • She shrugged. "Well... I can't say"
  • I scoffed. "Are fruits a sign of a good relationship?"
  • She chuckled but said nothing. I stood up and pick up my coat. As I made to leave the room, Alaila held my hand.
  • "And where are you heading to?"
  • I shrugged. "I don't know. I will take a stroll maybe. I need to get this off my mind"
  • She stood up. "I am coming with you"
  • "That won't be necessary," I told her.
  • "I am not changing my mind about that"
  • Knowing Alaila meant what she said, I sighed. "Suit yourself"
  • Alaila picked up her coat and we headed outside together. I stood outside the building contemplating which direction to follow.
  • "You don't know..."
  • I turned to look at Alaila and then pointed in the left direction. "Let's go this way"
  • "That leads to the training ground. Are you planning to see the Alpha?" Alaila asked with a wink and I frowned.
  • "Why would I want to do that?"
  • "To thank him for the fruits?"
  • "You are not being serious" I muttered with a smile.
  • "You are blushing" she teased.
  • "I am not"
  • "Do you like him?"
  • I furrowed my brows. "Who?"
  • "The Alpha, of course. He has been very nice to you especially. I think he..."
  • I quickly place my hand over her mouth. "What are you saying?"
  • She pulled my hand away from her mouth and groaned slightly. "Why did you cover my mouth up? It's not like I am saying anything bad about him. Or are you afraid someone else might find out that you like him?"
  • I scoffed. "I do not like him"
  • She folded her arms. "Then why are you always going to the training ground? Or is the Beta the one you like? What is his name again? Oh... Nathan"
  • I groaned. "I don't know what you are talking about, ok?"
  • "Of course you do. You..."
  • "I am leaving. You can come with me if you want to" I said walking away.
  • Alaila followed behind muttering some inaudible words. I only shrugged but said nothing. After a few minutes, she caught up with me and held me by my neck.
  • "What are you doing?"
  • "Look, we are close to the training ground. Do you think the Alpha is in?"
  • I rolled my eyes slightly. Like I care!
  • "We are not going to the training ground. And we have no business with the Alpha" I whispered to her, pushing her hand away from my neck.
  • She scoffed but said nothing and I was happy she kept quiet. We walked past the training ground and headed towards the packhouse.
  • We walked past the packhouse and were supposed to be heading to the parking lot but I stopped. That took Alaila by surprise, cause she widened her eyes, staring at me.
  • "Let's go behind..."
  • "You don't have a plan to go behind the packhouse. Do you?" Alaila asked with a shaky voice and I marvel at her sudden change.
  • "We are not going into the packhouse. Jason already told us not to"
  • "I am not talking about going into the packhouse. You do not plan to go behind the packhouse"
  • "Is there a reason we shouldn't?". She blinked but said nothing. "You are not saying anything?"
  • "There is no reason why we should not" she answered.
  • I stared at her and noticed she was shaking. "Ok. We will not go behind the packhouse". She sighed but said nothing. I waited for her to say something and when she did not, I spoke up instead. "Is there something you are afraid of?"
  • She looked at me. "No? Why-why should I be afraid of something"
  • I sighed. I could tell Alaila was hiding something from me but I can't say what it is.
  • "Alaila, you can talk to me. What are you afraid of"
  • She looked around, before gesturing to me to move closer. When I moved closer to her, she whispered.
  • "There is a secret house behind the packhouse"
  • I furrowed my brows. "So?"
  • "The Alpha..."
  • "What are you two doing over there?" someone shouted at us.
  • It was one of the guards that had brought us from the Ice pack.
  • "Alaila, at the count of three, we run," I told her. "One, two, three" I counted and we ran back to our building.
  • **
  • I became restless after hearing about the secret house behind the packhouse. Alaila told me more about the secret house after we got back to our room, and that made me more curious.
  • "The maids said that there is always a strange noise at night," she told me and I shrieked in excitement.
  • "Noise like that of a horror movie?" I asked and she frowned.
  • "This is not a horror movie, Xavia. This is reality. And don't you try to go there" she warned.
  • "Did you go to the secret house?"
  • She nodded. "Yes, but just once. It was not in the night though"
  • "Was there anything strange about the place?"
  • She nodded. "There was blood littered around the first room. I was too afraid to check out the rest of the room"
  • "Why did you not tell me about it?"
  • "Because I know you. You will try to go to the place"
  • I rolled my eyes.
  • You shouldn't have told me now then, because I won't be able to sleep without going to the secret house.
  • "I can't believe you kept this from me just because of that"
  • "You were morning your mom too. I couldn't bring myself to tell you about it"
  • I chuckled. "When did you find out about it?"
  • "During my visit, when I thought we were leaving. I decided to explore the pack"
  • "What else did you find?". She blinked. "Come on, tell me"
  • "Nothing" she muttered. "Please, Xavia, do not go anywhere close to that house, It is dangerous"
  • I nodded but right inside of me, I knew I won't keep that promise. I need to know what causes the noise at night. I waited for Alaila to be asleep before leaving the bed. I opened the door slowly and walked outside. I was heading to the packhouse when I heard footsteps behind me. I turned quickly and a figure stood behind me in shock. The light shined on her and I sigh.
  • "Alaila, what are you doing out here?"
  • "That question should be yours, not mine. Don't tell me you are going to the secret house"
  • I chuckled slightly. "I can't help it"
  • She groaned. "But I told you not to"
  • "It's too late to stop me now"
  • She sighed. "Like I have a choice. But do not say that I do not warn you. I am leaving"
  • I chuckled, holding her hand. "You are coming with me"
  • We got to the secret house just in time, when the noise was made. Alaila shrieked in fright while I shrieked in excitement.
  • "Let's go back please" she begged.
  • "Not after we find out what is going on in there"
  • "Xavia, what..."
  • I hugged her. "It's nothing, come on"
  • I held her hand and we moved closer to the house.
  • "I will open the door slightly, without a sound," I said and she nodded.
  • I opened the door and peeped into the house. I froze. I was not sure if I was afraid or happy.
  • "Who is that?" I heard and turned to see Jason, staring dangerously at us.
  • I blinked. Alaila moved closer to me, holding me tightly when we heard the sound once more.
  • "Is-is that the Alpha in there?" I stuttered vigorously, pointing to the door.
  • Jason brushed his hair backward, groaning. "Why did you come here?"
  • "W-what did you see?" Alaila asked.
  • "T-the... T-the..."
  • The door flung open and a creature walked out, covered with blood. Alaila screamed. I took a step backward, holding Alaila's hand and without thinking twice, dash into the woods.
