• Isabella popped a cherry into her mouth, puzzled as she stared at the empty space where Samuel’s garden painting had been. Resting her chin on her hand, she muttered to herself, “It’s strange. Why did Dad have the painting removed? And why did everyone leave quietly?”
• Lucius glanced at the side room’s door and already had a clear understanding.
• He smiled meaningfully, clinking glasses with Isabella and playfully winking, “Looks like Samuel is in for a tough time.”
