Chapter 2

  • Dagmar
  • Suddenly Marcus touches my hand, pulling me from my thoughts. “What is it, Marcus?” I ask as I turn to face him. He points in front of him, and I see the familiar sights of mountains. Mountains that tell me I am close to my Packs territory.
  • My eyes start to tear up and I have to push them back. This is not the time to break down. Maybe, if I survive, I can break down afterwards. Finally give in to grieving over my family, but not right know.
  • Right know I need to keep my mind on revenge. Like I have put off everything else in my life for the sole purpose of revenge.
  • People around me have moved forward, went on with their lives, while my live has been put on hold. Everyone knows that I am not really living, just getting by in order to get my revenge.
  • Those that do not know me, do not understand me. They always assume I do not care for anyone but myself. I am aware of this, but I do not care what others think of me.
  • My Squad, My Uncle and Maddox know the real me, the one that is hurting, the one that struggles. They know that I do care and that I appreciate them. That I would give my life for them.
  • As I know that they care for me and would give their life for me. But a part of me is scared, scared that I will never be able to be that carefree girl I once was. A girl that was unaware of the horrors that existed in the world.
  • Who thought that nothing could take away the life she was living? The love, kindness, and peace that she felt would last forever. But that girl is tucked away so deep inside of me, that I sometimes wonder if she will ever be able to come out again. Maybe I will regain a part of her the day I meet my mate.
  • “Turn right on to the dirt road.” I direct Marcus. “It won’t be long anymore.” Marcus leads our caravan of SUV’s on to the dirt road I had pointed out. Carlos and Daniel are slowly waking up in the backseat.
  • After a short drive down the road, I point to the left. As Marcus makes the turn, I notice something is not right. There is a huge gate ahead of us. It had not been there when I left.
  • Confusion is written all over my face and I mind-link my uncle. “Uncle James, who put that gate up?” Before my Uncle can respond Carlos has jumped from the car and walks over to the gate. Within a minute he is able to unlock it and we resume our way.
  • “Dagmar, I have no idea who put up that gate. But whoever it is, they are going to be reported to the Council.”
  • Is his response. Further up the road I see more things that should not be there. Buildings, fences and what looks like a training field.
  • This was not what I had expected, and it makes me fuming with rage. This is my Pack’s territory, and no one has the right to be here or build here. Marcus, Carlos, and Daniel sense that I am about to explode with anger.
  • Daniel leans forward and puts his hand on my shoulder. “We will find out who did this.” He whispers to me. That is enough to help me calm down so I will not go around killing someone.
  • Maddox
  • I see the mountains right in front of me and then they fade into Gina’s smiling face. Sadness overtakes me and I fight back the tears that want to come out.
  • As Rico follows behind Marcus, James puts a hand on my shoulder. “You, okay?” he asks through the mind-link. I nod and start looking out the window.
  • ‘What the fuck…” James looks ahead in shock and as I follow his gaze, I understand the outburst. That gate is not supposed to be there and if I see it correctly then there are some buildings that should not be there either.
  • As we get closer, I see that Carlos has jumped out of the car and has unlocked the gate.
  • The three of us tense up, knowing that this was done without permission of the Council. The Council has twelve members; Werewolves and Lycans. They have laid down laws and rules we have lived by for centuries.
  • They make sure Packs follow those laws and rules, because without them humankind would be aware of our existence. And that could cause a lot of new problems for our kind.
  • Right now, I wish I was sitting in the car with Dagmar so I could calm her down. I know she will be fuming by now. I want to hold her hand to let her know she is not alone.
  • Dagmar
  • I know this territory by heart and guide Marcus to where our Pack-house used to be. As he pulls to a stop, I jump out of the car and start to look around. There is nothing left to indicate that there used to be a house in this spot.
  • There is nothing left that shows we ever lived here. Nothing that could tell you this was once the home of the Blue Moon Pack. My head starts spinning and my eyes become watery.
  • But as always, I push everything back. No emotion showing on my face. Whoever was responsible, they would pay for their mistake. My squad, my Uncle and Maddox stand beside me in silence.
  • Uncle James has tears rolling down his face and Maddox has a sad expression in his eyes. I want to grab hold of his hand, but I cannot risk giving myself away.
  • Then we hear a sound to our right and Jenna wastes no time. Within seconds we hear a squeal and Jenna reappears with a woman by her side. The woman looks terrified and is about to break down in tears.
  • Marcus walks over to her, and you could see the fear appear in her eyes as he moves closer. With his 6’2 and in his combat gear he looks very intimidating.
  • But he shocks us all when he bends his knees to put him on eye level with the woman. “What is your name, little one?” he asks gently. Her eyes grow wide as she looks at him, but she manages to tell him her name is Lily.
  • Realizing that she is scared and knowing how intimidating we all look in our battle gear, I send my Squad out to investigate. Marcus is about to walk away when Lily grabs his arm. “Wwwill you stay?” she asks quietly, not looking at him.
  • He turns his eyes towards me, and I nod. “Of course, I will stay, little one.” He says. I am surprised at the way Marcus is acting, this is so unlike him. As I approach her, he puts a hand on her shoulder.
  • She does not flinch or pull back. “My name is Dagmar. Can I ask you some questions?” I look at Lily making sure that my face looks gentle, and she nods her head.
  • “Can you tell me who build all of this? Who took away all the buildings that used to be here?” I ask her. Lily looks me in the eye and takes a deep breathe before she answers. “Black Moon Pack, Crescent Moon Pack and Half Moon Pack.”
  • Uncle James steps forward and I know what he is going to ask her next. “Can you tell us what happened to the bodies of this pack?”
  • Lily looks up and turns towards the forest behind her. In the direction of where she and Jenna had come from. Marcus bends his knees again and turns her towards him.
  • “Are they buried there?” he asks her. She nods yes and starts walking in that direction. Then she looks over her shoulder at Uncle James and signals him to follow her.
  • Both of us waste no time to go where she is leading us. Marcus stays close by, just in case. After we walk through the first line of trees, we stand in a small clearing.
  • A clearing that had not been there. And as we take a few more steps it becomes clear as to why there is a clearing now. In front of us we see a stone and a lot of flowers and bushes, surrounded by a small makeshift fence.
  • When I step up to the stone, my heart stops for a split second. The stone reads: “Here lay the members of Blue Moon Pack. No survivors.” I hear Uncle James gasp as he reads the inscription on the stone.
  • Lily turns to him and says:” I’m sorry. Were they your friends?” That is the moment my Uncle breaks down and starts sobbing. Lily looks shocked and does not know what to do or say.
  • Turning to Lily I push back my tears and say: “This Pack was our Pack. The Alpha of this Pack was my Father and his Brother.”
  • Without hesitation Lily walks over to Uncle James and hugs him while he is still sobbing. She keeps repeating how sorry she is for his lose. And that they have always taken care of the grave site. Looking around Marcus and I realize that this is a mass grave.
  • Then all of a sudden it is as if Lily realizes what she is doing. She releases Uncle James and backs away with fear in her eyes. And she walks straight into Marcus.
  • He holds on to her shoulder to steady her. Uncle James looks at her and I see confusion in his eyes. As if Lily understands he wants to know why she backed away, she says: “I am an Omega and what I did was wrong. Please, do not tell Alpha Adam what I did. I should not have done that. I am so sorry.”
  • And tears are rolling down her face. Marcus, Uncle James, and I look at her and we realize that these Packs do not live by the Council rules. It looks like these packs have been flying under the Councils radar.
  • But I will make sure that that is in the past. You see, Omega’s may not be skilled fighters, but Packs cannot survive without them. Omega’s make sure we stay healthy by cooking for us.
  • They make sure our Pack-house is cleaned, so we can rest peacefully after an exhausting day of training. We make sure Omega’s are protected and that they have what they need. But these Packs do not care for their Omega’s.
  • Looking at Lily, and this time I really look at her, I can see the signs of what she has been through. Her clothes are worn down, I can see healing bruises and I can tell that she has not eaten properly.
  • This makes my blood boil and I am not the only one who is mad as hell. Behind me I feel Maddox radiating with anger. It looks like he was in hearing range and that is not good for these Packs.
  • Unknown to most out-siders Maddox’s mate, Luna Gina, was an Omega. And no one in his Pack ever treaded her differently because of it. We, as warriors, understand the need of proper meals to keep up our strengths and we know that we suck at it.
  • I mean; my Mother tried to teach me, but she failed miserably. So, I am always grateful for the food I get and always thank them in any way I can. My Squad members help out when the Omega’s need a hand with heavy lifting.
